Some help with my 71R eliminator and updates:

Just in case you missed it, I had a huge coolant leak last night.

Heard a pissing noise from under the car,and smelled burning coolant. I can't quite put my finger on the smell of burning coolant. Burning farts maybe? Burning pee? It doesn't smell good.

But here's an update on the boost issue.

I'm boosting 20psi at 5500 rpms. I decided to do some troubleshooting.

    boost leak? : NO Leak
    Plugs?: Changed them, brand new
    Changed the oil

Then I thought it might be the MBC. Checked that, It's holding 22PSI until it opens. So it's fine.

Okay, so now it might be the wastegate. Joy.
Checked the boost pressure at which the wastegate opens: 16+ psi. So I guess that's fine too.

    only things I haven't checked

    Injectors
    Coilpack

    Last but not least.
It just might be the turbo. How do I tell ??

That's the quick update. If anybody could provide some assistance, i'd be grateful.

    Thanks

Re: Some help with my 71R eliminator and updates:

Are you sure the wastegate flapper is completely closed though? Im guessing you just hooked air to the wastegate actuator with the turbo on the car and looked for the arm to move? I could be not seating properly and leaking a little. Also if you can borrow or have another valve and you havent already done it, put in another bov/diverter valve to be sure that isnt the problem, it could be leaking as well.

OT. Doug, don't you work with turbines? Steam or jet?

Jet Aircraft. I design and analyze turbine airfoils (rotating and stationary).

Oh, I just started a new job and we're assembling the steam turbines for a power plant. We're using GE products (sorry) but will be installing a jet turbine for heating the steam. Pretty cool stuff, huge scale.

Congrats on the new job! Yeah, those land-based turbines are giant! Like, airfoils that are a couple feet in length from root to tip whereas the stuff I design is anywhere from less than an inch to a few inches.

Re: Some help with my 71R eliminator and updates:

I'd check the DV seriously because you can boost to 20 PSI so that's a sign that the turbo is ok. Late boost is usually due to 2 things:

    1. Boost leak but you've eliminated that, right?
    2. DV is not closing all the way once it has opened. This would cause delay in building up boost within the intake system.

The generator it turns weighs 520,000lbs and uses 1000 degree steam. I'll try to get some pics.

Hmm... You might be right on this.

Damn, to check for the flapper seating, Looks like I'm gonna have to pull the turbo again huh?

DV,i'll swap it out just for the hell of it, what could it hurt.

    Thanks.
I'll try those and get back
