Could someone help me on this?

I am new to the whole forced induction scene. I understand the most basic concepts of turbo charging. I understand that power is not on tap anytime. You have to hit a sweet spot for the turbo to kick in and give a brief boost of power. I drove an A3 recently and i immediately noticed the difference from a n/a engine. with natural aspiration, i could immediately feel the surge of power. With the turbo, the lag seemed like eternity. Ofc, aftermarket mods could definitely improve turbo performance (higher boost psi, earlier spool time for turbo,etc.).

Now...my question, what is a supercharger then? What makes it different from a turbo? Is a sc better than using turbo for the same application? thanks for taking the time to educate a newb. cheers.

Quick answer - S/C runs off the engine and is belt driven (causing parasitic loss but linear torque curve - aka no lag and boost is instant). Turbo runs off the exhaust gases which take time to spool the turbine and thus you get the lag.
