    Cyl #5 misfire

Going to lunch today, CEL started blinking and engine runs like crap. Obvious misfire. Took it to AutoZone and its coming up as #5 misfire. I just put new Denso Irradiums in maybe 300 miles ago. Couple questions:

    - Could it be the Denso's? Anyone else have problems with them?
    - Maybe coil pack?
    - Are the cylinder locations on these engines the same as american engines where #1 cylinder is front left bank, then #5 would be rear left bank (sorry, i'm a newb with the german cars)
    - Am I risking any damage if I drive it home like this so I can work on it?

    Thanks.

switch the coils around and clear the codes. pull the battery then turn it on and see if it moves. If its not to far you should be ok, dont run 80 miles or anything

    Re: Cyl #5 misfire

    ^Thanks! I'll try that.
I just did a little googling and i found something that said the cylinders are numbered as follows:

    3 6
    2 5
    1 4
    --------
    (Radiator)

Can someone confirm this? This is a different arrangement then typical American engines.

    Thanks.

your Cyl 5 is never firing, lol. it's spinning instead, count your turbo as Cyl 5. J/K

you should replace the CP and see what happens next.

Good thing you don't have a typical American car!

^Yeah, like my trusty 3800 SC'd Regal that has been getting me around the past few days since the Audi has been broke down :(

It was indeed the coil pack, i swapped it between #4 & 5 and the problem moved. BTW, the arrangement of the cylinders is what i posted above for everyone's info.

    Re: Cyl #5 misfire

i had the same issue the other day.

cel went on and engine was tweakin out completely.

borrowed an obd2 scanner from schucks and had readings of cylinder 3 misfiring...

replaced all the coils and plugs with some new njk's 6E's and the car idles/runs so much smoother.

    loving it!

    Good luck!
