Basically something somehow got sucked in the intake and BAM. Dont know when it happend but the car had been running really shitty lately. So after ordering a new wastegate(whick I now know that I didnt need), I pulled the turbo off and found this.

Ouch! I am sorry to hear. FOD! (foreign object damage) This is a big deal beyond just the turbo.

What is your intake set-up like? Air Filter? Etc... Got any clues as to what could have gotten in?


I suggest a few things to verify the rest of the engine is O.K.
~ Pull your FMIC off and take a look at that too. The particles probably got really small so also pull your Throttle body off and look at your intake manifold and throttle body. See if you can look down into the valves. Might have to pull the intake manifold off too. Check for any other damage into the engine.

~ Perhaps Shawn has a boroscope at his shop? I am assuming his shop is near you? Really should boroscope into the cylinders to take a look at them (pistons, walls, etc..). Start with looking at the bottom of the spark plugs for potential damage.

Im not sure. I just know that I want a full framed internally wastegated 2871R. I would go 3071R, but i want to have a litle more time to play before winding out the RPM band.

9 times out of 10 the engine is trashed and written off as a loss. I've seen it happen.

Unless you are getting some sweet used deal, then I would highly recommend you go with a t3 setup instead.

Foolish idea, the eliminator setup makes more power than the full setup and is much more reliable.

I can spool my T25 2871R with apr 3+ hardware to 20psi at the same rpm that I did with my gtrs (2860) and atp mani (both 2.0L). With the 2.0L spool with the T25 2871R I am now spooling hundreds of rpms quicker and can hit +/- 2-3psi more peak with this setup than the gtrs and 1.8L or 2.0L. Peak being 25psi up here with my current setup.

ATP T25 manifold is a piece of shit, the bolts that hold the turbo break daily, there is no TIP that fits and the downpipe is a piece of shit too.

I ran this crap back in 2004 and am glad to have it off of my car.
