Rebuilding one KO4 and not the other?

So if I were to get a set of used KO4's that has a decent amount of miles, one that needs to be rebuilt and one that has no shaft play nor bent fins, would it be unwise to just get one rebuilt?

why chance it, i would rebuild both.

I would do both. It's not hard to pull them apart and it will give you piece of mind.

By using the term "rebuild" I would mean replacing the whole CHRA with a new one and skipping the use of any of those rotating parts again.

Dissasembling the CHRA will require it to be rebalanced upon assembly and you can't do that at home. Replacement CHRAs will cost less than having a shop rebuild/rebalance them.

I'm constantly on the fence because of opportunities that keep presenting themselves, but I decided that I love the car and it's really the one that I want, so I'm going to keep it and likely mod it a little

keep it and find some turbos to put on it, if you get used K04's just replace the CHRA's on them or find some RS6 turbos and throw rods in the motor or run low boost and more timing on E85 ;)

I believe Greg has stated in another thread he rides around with 2 ECU's, the E85 and just in case none is aval-pops in the 93 pump ECU.

To rebuild them you need a rubber mallet, a narrow 10mm, a heat gun, some copper silicone, before you do anything make sure you mark the turbos so you know what is the exact orientation of everything.

to have someone do it it cost me 1065.00 and that was with shipping and one year warrenty, i got raped for 60 bucks to ship each turbo one way. so it cost 240 bucks just to ship. and also 850 miles later my driver side turbo is leaking oil/coolant. im so pissed but they are going to do it for free or i will eat his child.

i do it myself and got pretty damn good lol, i can have the motor, tranny out in less than an hour and a half but i hate doing it!

oh they better warrenty it, they havent seen more than 17psi and that was only twice and with only one launch

yea i know that was my original prce but the ****** liked to play with this shipping but hey i only payed 500 for the turbos in good shape so 1500 for fully built and warrentied turbos isnt bad just if they do it right i guess

E85 here is like $3.40, but still cheaper than $6/ga 100 oct:)
