    Exhaust Installed

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After some indecision, back & forth the new pipes are on! AWE downpipes finally installed -- no more check engine lights and no more confusing the ECU, pure free-flow. Then did swap for almost new Milltek catbacks, modded the valence accordingly, and voila: the car gives something in between a purr and a gentle growl. Deep sound, not obtrusive, no drone at cruise rpm (which is not necessarily all that low an rpm ).

Heading out for road trip for several days as soon as these are posted below. Still have the gutted downpipes (OEM -- cleared out completely), but those piggies are going to market.

    Have great weekend, all!

    Re: Exhaust Installed

how much louder is it with the DPs? i have a milltek catback, i know its not exactly the same, but i know milltek designs all their catbacks to similar noise levels. Just wondering if it would be worth it to install cut outs for that roar when necessary.

looks good man, can't wait for the sound clip

Wofman, do you know if the lower part of your bumper are just connect through clips or screws or is it part of the actual rear bumper.

I've been wanting to expose my exhauts but I have a 2000 model

    Re: Exhaust Installed

"wot" - got it. Was thinking of the cut-off system allowing shifts with accelerator floored to hold boost.

It's actually not very loud, though sound got deeper as I used it -- harder driving loosened up cells cats in AWE, I think. I think downpipes/cats get louder with a break-in. But no backfiring. Much more sedate than that (Milltek has has resonators and mufflers, though some take out res's to change that). Idle is quiet, dull rumble (quieter than magnaflow) but I do hear more when I get on it hard, for sure. I was near Blue Ridge Parkway and got all over a twisty run to climb up to parkway (Rt 80 - NC; great road!) a few weeks ago, on way back from there did some great back roads in Va, WV and Md, then Cliffs of Insanity. Tone clearly was deeper after that along with some highway miles. And some gurgling when accel is released and revs drop, but not a lot. I plan to get on it a bit more.

I'll see if I can get somebody to drive it while I stand by at Poker Run in a couple days. Geezers don't know audio clips but I'll look into it.

Bumper (valence) was modded with cutouts, sanded for smooth edges, and valence repainted (Sam at EliteMotorsNJ). Looks stock, right?

    Glad you like it!

    Re: Exhaust Installed

yes - missed that -- "valence" is integral (but cut-out is not expensive); I used to think downturns "kept the stealth", but if you look around since 2000 every car has pipes exposed, dual exhaust look, and it is no longer some sort of advertisement of a fast car, or anything like that.
