Re: So I just bought downpipes!!

I have them on my car. They are perfect for my stage 3 setup since there are no cats. Just a few things to note:

    A. They might not work on a tip car since the tip downpipes have a different shape.
    B. They are made for an S4, so you will need to cut down the longer side and weld the reduced end back on.
    C. The wannabe Aeroquip clamps are not easy to align and tend to leak.
    D. Holy turbo spool Batman!

Do you have the exact same ones, because these say they are specifically for the A6...not an S4.
Also if you do daft, should I just weld everything and forget the clamps?

also who makes these??? I bought them out of michigan

From the looks of it, it appears it ends with the resonators

These were a lucky find, due to a process on ebay called selective typing...i.e. instead of typing s4 downpipes which will have alot of views, I type A6 downpipes, not many people are gonna look for those. If the buyer put s4 downpipes, they might have sold for more

Re: So I just bought downpipes!!

    Chris,

They are the SSAutoChrome downpipes. They were never made for an A6, only for S4 2.7T cars.

The kit includes both a set of the resonator sections and the straight pipe sections. The resonators have secondary O2 sensor bungs. The straight pipes do not.

I will say that even if you plumb the O2 sensors into these pipes and even install de-foulers, you will still get the CEL for the main cats not working. The problem is that you will have no cats at all now and there will be zero reduction in emissions. The secondary O2s will not see a large enough delta in the readings from the primary sensors and the ECU will think that the cats are failing.

Anyhow, I ended up having my software guy turn off the rear O2 sensors in the ECU and now my CEL is gone.

I'm surprised. Mine wouldn't go away.

Chris, you would only use them in the secondary locations where the resonators are. The primary sensor locations should always be plumbed directly into the ehaust stream to ensure proper fuel trim adjustments.

Re: So I just bought downpipes!!

to tell you the truth Brett, i am still surprised, knock on wood, but simply 2 defoulers, aka spark plug extensions, working perfect for me, i had idea that maybe 2000 had simpler electronics in that area, but for like 10$ for all 4 defoulers its worth a try, cause i am sure to recode the ECU is a lot more.

Did you remember exactly how much you had to cut-off??

Would it be easier to cut the exhaust rather than the DP?
Since the car will be on a lift with a blow-torch and all
