    H&R Cup Kits

I did some searching on here and found some posts from people who had positive things to say about them. Didnt really find a proper review or any negative posts.

I was talking to a buddy of mine who had the H&R Sport Cup kit on his C Class a couple of years ago. He also had aftermarket rims on the car with a slightly more agressive offset than stock and said the suspension was quite soft and he constantly rubbed.

I'm looking to get the H&R Sport Cup Kit sometime in the near future and will eventually down the road upgrade to 18" Rims.

I just want to know if anyone on here has this kit, how do you like the ride/handling? Do you have aftermarket wheels? Offset? Do you rub?

    Thanks for all the help.

I want the OEM ride feel cuz my Corolla is insane stiff. I guess I'll get the touring kit so that its not too agressive of a drop but fixes the annoying giant wheel gap.

    Re: H&R Cup Kits

I have ran coilover setups in lots of cars but on the A3 I thought I would try the Cup Kit Sport because of all the good things I have heard. I am extremely pleased with it in everyway. I am running 19" RS6 wheels (et45) with no rubbing issues at all (I didn't even remove the rear inner fenderwell screws). The kit rides extremely nice and doesn't seem to beat me up as much as my FKs, or BGs that I ran in other vehicles.

    Good luck.

The pic does not do the ride height justice. It sits very low in person.

I have the exact same car except I have the 5 spok wheels. Color tint everything is dead on and I like the look. Glad to hear that you did not have any issues at all with rubbing. I'm looking to go no more than 45 offset as well so this is definitely good news. I guess I will be going with the sport cup kit then. That is waht I've wanted to do and that stance is just beautiful. Thanks for the info man.

    Re: H&R Cup Kits

I have an 07 A3 with the H&R sport cup kit, i could not run 19in wheels x8.5 as they would rub. ended up going to tire rack and getting a set of 18x7.5 JH8 wheels, got minor rub for a few days but after I removed a screw from the rear fenders that seems to do nothing, rub gone... as for the ride, it is very good, obviously dont expect the same smoothness as stock but you will love the improved handling... enjoy...

    Re: H&R Cup Kits

Vince, what offset were your 19's and your 18's?

KayC. Thanks for the pix. Do you have any rubbing issues on bumps or turns? I'm assuming those rims are aftermarket? Offset.

Sorry for so many questions. I just want to make sure I have my groundwork done before making the purchase.

    Re: H&R Cup Kits

the 19s I think where8 8.5 et35, so I did not even try them on. the 18s I got where 18x8 and 35 which rubbed. I fount out they needed to be about 45 for them not to rub so I got a set of ASA wheels that are 18x7.5 et45 and removed the fender screws, I got rubbs a couple of times but its going away, just the edge of the plastic piece rubs when I get aggressive...

    Re: H&R Cup Kits

Koni FSDs are a great idea, but they have had very mixed reliability originally, due to some quirks in the assembly process. They are not sold as kits, nor are they adjustable like most all other Konis.

H&Rs typically use Bilstein shocks so the ride/handling mix is fixed.

Althought the first coilovers I ever bought were Bilstein (for a Jetta) and H&R (for my 325 autocrosser) with fixed damping, I have come to believe that adjustable shocks are a better option. Too stiff? Soften the rebound? Going autocrossing? Half a twist and you're good to go.

The same with coilovers - sometimes 1/4" is the difference between rubbing and clearance, or making it out of your driveway cleanly.

Check out the Koni coilovers, or the Stasis version of same. They are a little more money, but you won't ever regret it.

    Re: H&R Cup Kits

Koni does make and FSD Cup kit for the GTI, not sure for the A3. I just called them on this yesterday. If you want adjustibility I would do koni coils or springs and koni adj. shocks.

    Re: H&R Cup Kits

Maybe because I am running 225-35-19s, but I had 4 people in my car this weekend and hit some deep dips and had zero rubbing issues. Like I stated above, I did not even remove any inner fender well screws from the rear.

    The wheels are 45 offset.

    Re: H&R Cup Kits

You guys didn't have any fitment issues with it right? on the H&R Website, it says this about the H&R Cup Kit: "When lowering the chassis more than 1.4”, and your vehicle has a 42mm or larger drive shaft you must use one of H&R’s Volkswagen front sway bars to accomplish adequate drive shaft clearance."

    http://www.hrsprings.com/scripts/app...Find3&MakeID=3

Can anyone verify this, or has anyone had to do this?

So its necessary to have the sway bar? or did you just add it for added cornering performance? thanks for the quick response. and you have the Rear sway bar, correct?
