My car is at a local independent shop and new catalyst converter will cost close to 900 bucks. Anyone know where I can get this part without paying arm and a leg? I have a4 3.0. Thx

    Re: CEL messed up Catalyst

cat should be warrantied for like 5 or 10 years, thats the first thing to check.

i'm not sure about the 3.0 but for the 1.8t you can get a high flow cat from a few different places for about $300 (that's what i'm running) which is cheaper then OEM.

the 3.0 might be a downpipe/cat combo which would explain why it is more.

check the clasifieds, here at audizine, over at audiforums.com, and vwvortex.com. you might be able to find a used one for a few hundred.

go to your local dealership, pay the $180 diagnostic to reset cel. if it turns on again before a certain number or miles (forgot what it was) they will replace it for free. at least thats what happened with me.

i got that cel the other day. took it to the dealer, they scanned it for free and cleared the code. they have to see the code twice b4 they replace. so when it comes back on, i will take it in and then they will replace. (i only have 69k miles though).
