    PES G2 questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm thinking about maybe getting one next year. What is reasonable install cost and approximate time it takes? I looked for a DIY and couldn't find one anywhere, any help would be appreciated.

Also wondering how much it will effect mileage.

I already used the search and there wasn't much involving the G2.

    thanks

can be had used for 2.5-3k install is pretty straight foreward. mileage depends on how you push the skinny pedal. your making more power, which takesmore gas, so if you get on it all the time gas mileage will reflecy it :)

Another note on the gas issue is the injectors. The rcs are prone to fail. Mine are costantly providing too much fuel giving me a rich code. I will solve this by running more BOOST

Any way good luck and do go to scaudi.com READ first then ask any ? you did not get answered.

    Re: PES G2 questions

I just picked up a G1 off of scaudi It's definitely a good resource if you're thinking about going S/C, and as mentioned, read what's on there.

    Re: PES G2 questions

go ahead and get one. i just got my g2 installed on my passat (fwd) and it is amazing. PES is developing an intercooler (to be released this fall?). the only drawback is you can only run 6-7 lbs of boost safely with the stock ~3.15" pulley. some have pulled off the 2.9 inch pulley safely but it requires a a/f tweaking. if you really wanted to get crazy, you could do the g2 w/ the intercooler w/ water-meth injection w/ cryo2 setup for some serious no worry/no hassle horsepower. just a thought-but again i highly recommend the charger. the diy install takes about 8 hrs of actual time and about 24 hrs to let any sealant cure. quite easy-PES (patrick) is very helpful and they provide an install manual as well.

THere is an install manual i have it printed out at my house with step by step instructios and pictures to go with it, ( i have the G@ set up for aout a year, my friend who i bought the car from put it on hwith his dad themselves with no trouble as i recall) but you cant run an intercooler with the G2 as of yet it you would have to mount an intercooler between the intake manifold and the S/C since it is a top mount roots whipple. Only the G1's that are side mount allow you to make a intercooler set up as we speak. Theres just simply not enough room to mount an intercooler on the G2 under our hood, it wiould be just too tall. and for gas mileage its not the greatest but thats because of that little pedal as you all said ... its not bad maybe 18mpg???... And yes the 2.8 pulley does require work and tweaking i was reading on scaudi and the pulley boys website that it is recomended that you upgrade engine internals which can get $$ but hopefully ill get some money in the future to do this.

but anyways G2 = best mod for the 2.8 and a deffinate must for performance great product and Patrick is a great help on scaudi if you have questions

    Re: PES G2 questions

i used copper gasket sealant between the throttle body -->TB gasket/spacer-->g2 inlet. i also used the sealant between the charger and the plenum, and between the plenum and engine inlet (in addition to factory gaskets). pressurization is crucial. call PES and speak with patrick. tell him rex in sc told ya to give him a call. on the diy install, everyone recommends alotting a day or two (in good-warm weather). if its cold you will break/crack alot of the plastic hoses, etc. if you need any more info, check out scaudi.com and become a member. if you have any super technical questions, look up 4rings (he is an administrator, has a built former 2.8-now a 2.9, and has run into just about everything for the 2.8).

also, covering the intercooler for the g2. patrick at pes has developed a couple that work, but are going the the engineering/testing of best performance stage right now (then onto finding mfg, etc-->hopefully released towards the end of the year). yes, there is no room for an intercooler with the g2 as it stands now, but if you relocate igintion coil and change the coil packs (switch to the 1.8t/2.7t style--no one sells a kit yet, but it has been done=possible better spark for a forced injection), space will then be freed up. the intercooler for the 2.8 HAS BEEN created it just hasnt been released.

    ~3.15 pulley 6-7 lbs
    ~2.9 pulley 9 max lbs
    ~2.8 pulley 12-13 lbs

the pistons will melt at roughly 10 psi. forged pistons will run you about 8-1200 and take at least a month to get (flatlanderracing i believe). the rods are the same at the s4, so they will be good to at least 400 hp. you would also have the get the block rebored to i believe 83mm as opposed to 82.5mm (dont quote me on that, but its close). if you do get a g2, also figure in upgraded shocks, springs, sway bars, awe stabilizer bar, snub mount, s4 motor mounts. also it is highly recommended to do the timing belt service if you havent already done it.

    Re: PES G2 questions

yeah, when i talked to patrick, he said that the intercooler set up would run anywhere between 800-1000, but there will be a discount for current g2 owners. this wasnt just patrick telling me about the intercooler setup, tony (i believe) let it slip when i called up about a question. i will be posting some vids of my passat with the g2 in the next couple of weeks. i am just busy as heck right now with work

Really? I ran at 10 psi with a 2.9" pulley and VVT disabled for about 2 months going WOT in 3rd and the engine still runs like a champ...

    Re: PES G2 questions

just do a compression check (specs can be found online or you can get a haynes manual for the DIYer). the 2.8 is a great engine if maintained. i remember seeing on one of the forums that a guy had over 200k on his motor and close to 80k on the g2. one thing to consider is that if you have more than the normal "issues" with your 2.8 (big leak quart every 2 days) i would get those fixed before you install the charger. remember you are adding some serious pressure the motor. i have 140k on my motor right now, and it runs like a champ. also, if you do decide to run a smaller pulley than the 3.15, you are running it at your own risk. the 2.9 adds some serious heat to an already HOT natured motor. I installed an upgraded oil cooler, power steering cooler, big/high cfm electric fan, new coolant (just did timing belt water pump service), and some temp gauges to just be safe.

    Re: PES G2 questions

mileage is not an issue, just do a compression check. the g2 is an install and forget setup. pes had some issues with the original rc injectors they sold with the kits. all issues have been resolved and they sell the bosch injectors with the kits now instead of the rc. the only maintainence you will have with the g2 is to change your oil every 3000 miles (high heat kills oil quick), check the serpentine belt, and change the charger oil every 20000 miles (recommended but not required).
