Will this kit give me the ability to trouble-shoot engine codes, Change settings ie. belt buckle "dinging" , door lock, etc?

    Re: VAG COM?

i don't think so man, it should say KEY-USB or CAN+KEY-USB. that might be a ebay cable, not sure, doesn't look like a ross-tech cable though............ i'm assuming TACHO is another interface just like KEY, CAN, and MicroCAN. if it is a different interface it won't work.

This is what mine looks like:

the original guy didn't look into it to much or he would have known that you can't just change the millage on your car like that, everyone would be cranking back their millage and every car on the road woudl be TMU.

here is another "real" ross-tech cable, notice the www.ross-tech.com on the label.

you might want to cancel that order. if it's not a real ross-tech cable you will really only be able to read the codes and not make any modifications. $50 down the drain. i have a ebay cable in my trunk, got it for $20 or $30, didn't work for shit, then i went out and got the real thing. stright up one of the best investments you can make if you plan on doing your own work on the car.

Yes, VAG TACHO is the thing you need if you want to adapt different clusters to VW/Audi cars. I think you can also play with odometer but I'm not sure. It's NOT what you need to read engine codes and modify settings.

Second that ebay cable comment. Had one that worked a few times and blew up on me. It was replaced a few times and always ended up blowing. Now have an original Ross-Tech and couldn't be happier.

yeah I'm kinda wondering why you bought it, then asked if it'd work. I however have had the ebay vag cable for a couple months with no problems whatsoever. It's already provided me with enough logs and data that I wouldn't be upset if it blew up

My ebay [USB] cable works perfectly fine.. It helps that I have a fully licensed copy of VAG-Com though.

really, for the usefulness of this tool $199 is an extreme value. not to long ago it cost $$$$ for a basic scanning tool that didn't do anywhere near what you can with vagcom.

I would easy pay $500 for a product like this if that's what it cost, so $199 is nothing for some vag action........

    Not always.

I bought an eBay cable for $15 and downloaded some free software from ross-tech then downloaded some cracks and instructions on how to right some rolling codes through the cmd window to keep resetting the ross-tech registration info and I've been able to read/clear codes and reprogram options.

Like I have all my doors unlock/lock with one press instead double click on my key fob.

I can roll up/down all my windows with the key fob without putting the key n the door.

My fog lights run with just my parking lights now.

My doors lock at 5mph and unlock when I pull the key out.

Took a little time and reading on how to trick the software but it was free.

    Re: VAG COM?

and illegal but whatever, not gonna lecture you.

just saying it's a great tool and for what it costs i don't see the need to go the cheapo route.

$15 and shipping if anyone wants my ebay cable since you all think they are so hot, i got the real deal wired up into the dash and don't need it.
