I am going to put back on the stock air box back into the car.
the CAI now is truely a hot air intake and it's robbing power crazily.

before I put back the air box. few quick Q.
how hot does the engine bay get, temperature wise?

I am going to heat wrap the air box. Lee pm'ed me with what he used before but now I can't find it anymore.

here is what I found, I know i have to make it stay around the air box.

in general, what do you guys think of that ebay item? It's rated like 1200F degrees.

if you guys think that ebay thingy doenst work, what do you recommend?

    happy

    Re: stock air box

even with the heat shielf the hot air will still manage to get through and then will be sucked into the intake. a box is better.
audi designed a very good air box. I shouldnt have taken it out; i dont want to spend $350+ on the Carbino.

    Re: stock air box

The shit you linked to is for exhaust. What you need is reflective. It's a ribbon-like heat shield for wrapping around the TIP, and it's self-adhesive for the airbox in 12X12 or 24X24 sheets. I'll look for it now and post up. Shit works.

EDIT: See post below for links.

    Re: stock air box

The stock air box is one of the best things Audi put in the B6. If you must put something in there just get a K&N panel filter and a Carbonio V2 box.

    For box:

    Clicky

Over O2 sensor and various wires/hoses around manifold (and yes, they match my bay paint, lol):

    Clicky

Aw, hell, here is the page and you pick WTF you want, lol:

    Clicky

And here is the page for stuff I wrapped my TIP with:

    Clicky

Have at it and get cool. I did a lot of extra ducting and air-flow stuff at the same time, so I can't be certain how much any of it helped, but after TP wrap, and all intake/TIP wrapped, I dropped IAT ree-dick-you-lous amounts. I was up as high as 45-50 celsius continuous before doing all that, now I rarely, if ever, go above 40; even better in cold weather. 90% always within 5-7 degrees of ambient and when it raises at high RPM, it falls back again quickly after each shift.

    Re: stock air box

Be extra careful with filter oil. Dab the filter with a paper towel out of the box to get any excess up. K&N's could cause MAF problems if over-oiled.
