Ok, so question time: I'll be the first to admit I have no experience with any exhaust work other than lowering mine to install my H-Sport Rear Sway Bar. I'd love to do a catback system, but I really just don't have the cash as I'm really wanting to do c.o. and am about to buy an H&R c.o. kit.
Anyhow, this idea really really appeals to me, as I'd mainly just like my S to be a little louder and am not really looking for the performance gain (we all know full exhaust is awesome, but number wise isn't "huge" gains). I listened to the videos on youtube and kinda like it, and if it wasn't going to be major work, damage anything, or be in violation of anything (other than possibility of noise issues), then I'd really like to do this.
1)Is there a way that I could have a shop just remove the mufflers and bend 2.25" pipe and add some tips to still have twin tips (or find some that match RS4 tips maybe?) and basically create straight pipes?
2)How much would this probably run, or would it be possible do myself (i.e. does someone sell something like that). What should I ask for or tell them?
3)How would this be done, is it a straight cut and remove or, I know many catback systems are "bolt on" (don't know how literal they mean bolt on). I quickly looked at my exhaust and it appears to all be welded from cats back, so if I wanted or needed to put the mufflers back on, how would this be done?
I know a lot of you all are a lot more experienced in this field than me, as I'll easily I'm a novice in many regards. But I do have some DIY experience as I've done many small mods on my car. So I'd like to go ahead and thank you for any helpful input you may provide! (sorry if I just threadjacked to btw)
Oh, and sammy, great lookin RS4 ya got there, and I have a hard time believing you'd want to pass on having the Tubi exhaust on it as I love the sound they make! I'd want them on my car any day of the week, but that mod would be quite a ways down the road for me. But it sounds like you've done a fair bit of tinkering and trying different setups to find what ya like the best.
