need advice on what to do with my b5

I am approaching 100k miles on my 99.5 1.8tqms and after 2.5 years of up and down feelings I don't know what to do.

I still owe a little over 4 grand on the car.

I have done the ICM, TB, valve cover gasket, ABS unit is getting sent in for a rebuild.

outer cv boots need to be changed, a tie rod is fucked up, and front upper control arm is going out so it will need replacing soon. steering rack has a slow leak.

I have put some money into the car: apr chip, 710n, boost gauge, s4 headliner, custom cat back exhaust, tint, Hid, complete sound system redone, new tires....

I am between selling this car and riding out on my beat '89 mazda truck for the next year or so until i leave for college or dropping upwards of 1k to get the car legit again. I know a thousand bucks isn't much money but, for a student it is.... what would you guys do? sell or keep it and fix it?
Ti.Sline: yeah my dads got shit in order
SkunkonCrunk: i had to pay $300 and fight the city after they sprayed a bike lane on my car
SkunkonCrunk: i hear ya, i know u guys dont get along but let bigons be bigons, or however u spell it, im at a two year

Sell it........drive a beater while in college(you will not have the money/time to keep up with the temporment of an audi).......then buy an S4 when you graduate. Thats what i did and although it sucks not having an audi for 4 years its def worth it to pick up a super nice one when you get a solid career going.

I hate having my B5 in college. If it was me id sell the beater truck and the B5 and pick up something that you wont give a shit about for cheap that girls still feel safe riding in. Although it isnt the greatest time to sell right now so it may not be worth it.

Weigh out your options and let us choose from them

I'm going to talk to my parents today. the trucks just a third car we keep around that I could drive for a while. I'm probably going to ucsb so I won't need a car really. Now that I think about it...control arms are gonna be expensive, I need new tires soon, and at 100k who knows how long the clutch will hold out.....this could get expensive. Maybe i can talk my dad into buying a hybrid and letting me drive that for awhile. Could probably get a sweet deal with the economy as it is right now, it's getting financed that will be a pain

A hybrid car is not worth it in the end. If you want good MPG without spending a lot just pick up a slightly used civic with a stick. Great car, great mileage and parts are cheap and plentiful. Same goes for a corolla but i feel the civic is the better looking of the two.

I too am going through the decision of getting rid of my 98 A4 2.8Q tiptronic as i'm going away to school in january and more than likely will be able to utilize public transportation for all of my needs. just means having to rent a car to drive around or borrow the parents car if need be. i hear you on the situation you're going through at how you'd want to avoid having to continue paying for things that need to be fixed as you pass the 100k mark. i'm just about to push 97k on mine and i've had the car since the beginning of may. car had 90k on it when i first picked it up. it drives like a dream, but realized that maintenance towards the car is ridiculous. i should have stayed with the honda accord i had before hand. only plus side to the car is the awd which is good for all different types of weather.

Re: need advice on what to do with my b5

cars on craigslist and got a couple calls already and it's making me realize the drawbacks....I could get my abs module rebuilt, get the cv boot fixed that is ripped and most of the bad stuff would be fixed....any car needs tires and clutches so that's not an excuse to sell. i'd almost rather have the car just sit broken and make the payments monthly than sell it i think?

i think the real problem is that youre still making payments. if you cant afford to pay the car off you probably cant afford to maintain it too well. these cars arent very expensive anymore.

Re: need advice on what to do with my b5

I am keeping it....The payments aren't the problem....everything braking is. I'm not used to having to throw more at a car in fixing shit than I do in payments a month. I'll take it slow though and see what I can fix myself. those control arm bolts are a real pain in the ass
