    Factory iPod adapter HELP!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I picked up a new A4 yesterday, with new meaning leftover 08. I have the factory nav. with the iPod adapter. I plug in my iPod and nothing happens. I scroll through the cd listing, where I believe the playlists are supposed to appear and there is nothing. I have tried resetting the iPod as the manual suggests and still no luck. I am pretty savvy when it comes to this type of stuff (I was a certified mobile electronics installer for 4 years), so I don't think its a case of ESO (Equipment Superior to Operator). Does anyone have any further suggestions before I drag myself over to the dealerhsip? Any special A4 tricks per se.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks.

The one with the dock. You open the glove box, shove the iPod into the adapter/dock and the head unit is supposed to recognize it. From what I read the playlists on the iPod should show up as CD's, like as if you had discs in a CD changer.

The iPod is one of the current models, about 9 months old - an 80GB video iPod. Pretty standard.

hit the cd button twice to get the ipod to play... it should show up as cd 12 and if you have playlists they should show up as CD 7,8,9,10,11

    Hopes that helps

Yep, tried that. I think it's more of an issue of the headunit not seeing the iPod at all. Is there a way to reset the radio or something? Maybe if I reset both it'll work? Any other ideas?

I had an issue with the car reading my ipod as well when I first picked it up. I always thought it felt as if it was as far in as possible, but it wasn't. Try taking it out and giving a nice firm push. You should see a "check" mark come up on the ipod along with the four rings to let you know it recognizes it. I bet that's your problem.

    Re: Factory iPod adapter HELP!

No dice. I tried another iPod too, older model. That one didn't work either. The head unit screen briefly shows CD6 and a bunch of tracks with 0:00 length, but then quickly goes back to the nav disc at CD7. I also tried resetting the head unit. This also did not have any effect. If I unplug the adapter behind the glove box (not behind the radio) and plug it back in it also shows CD6, which then quickly vanishes. Any other suggestions?

The Factory unit is made by a company called DICE Electronics. Dice is known for having quality issues. You may have a bad one in there. If you can't figure it out, I would call you Audi dealer and tell them it's not working.

    Re: Factory iPod adapter HELP!

I found that my 160 gb iPod would not work with the OEM adapter, but a very old 6 gB did, as does a newer 80Gb.

What I'm also trying to figure out is how to shuffle, and also how to access songs that aren't in the first five playlists.

Clunky interface, to say the least.
