    225/35/19...what to buy?

Looking to get new tires 225/35/19 and went to TireRack to see what they had to offer. It looks like the General Exclaim UHP were the best bang for the buck based on the survey results. However, the survey results seemed a lot more positive than the TireRack test results (which placed the General Exclaim UHP second to the Kumho Ecsta SP). Ideally, I'd like to stay under $200 per tire. Any thoughts/recommendations here would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you mean Kumho SPT? Not SP?

Well we have mounted both here at Velocity Motoring. They are very popular bang for the buck tire, Kumho being slightly more stickier.

I like the Kumho SPT a little better for dry traction myself

Thanks. I ended up going with the General Exclaim UHPs. Question though - what do you think the proper tire pressure is for 225/35/19s on a B5 S4? Thanks.

even at max PSI, the 225/35R19 does not meet minimum load requirements for the front axle. We cannot recommend this size as a safe application (assuming its going on a 2001 S4). Front axle needs 1,257 lbs capacity per tire, and anything in your size can carry 1,235 max. It's close, but that doesn't count.

By being under load, you have a higher likelyhood of sidewall bubbles / blowouts, and will experience more tire wear than average.

That's weird. That is the tire size that Neuspeed recommends for B5 A4/S4 applications. I'm going to call them in a bit and see what they say. As for the local tires shop, they didn't say anything when I told which vehicle make and model the wheels/tires were going on. Are there any 225/35/19s that are able to carry a higher load? Also, the vehicle weight is 3,650 lbs, so why does the combined load requirement need to be around 5,000 lbs (1,257 capacity per tire x 4)?

The Gross Axle Weight ratings for either axle have to account for the both the the weight of the car and of the weight of passengers/cargo.

I talked w/ Arnold over there at TR and he told me basically the same thing that you are telling me. I then talked to Neuspeed and told them what Arnold told me. He said that they have been running 225/35/19s for years w/ no problems. I understand the weight issue which is why I would never put four 300 lbs people plus luggage into my car. I usually just drive myself and my wife and that is only a combined weight right there of like 250lbs.

No problem there, but for liability reasons we would not knowingly sell the 225 for your car in case someone that borrowed your car (or bought it from you) decided to haul cattle with it.
