Totaled?

Hi guys, I've been lurking around here for awhile and was in an accident the other day. I know how you guys love pictures and thought I'd upload them and see if you guys think it's totaled, I've seen cars on here totaled with less visible damage. Car drives fine, it's just the side airbags deployed and the frame of the car seems fine. At least while it's in the shop I might get the brakes which I ordered over a month ago from GSG.

that car COULD be fixed, looks like no damage to the rear suspension components. I doubt the unibody is tweaked much if at all just the rear quarter needs to be straighten a bit

^^ Not true. Although most ppl think that about a damaged vehicle it is very much untrue. A total loss is determined when damage to a vehicle hits approx.70%- 80% of the cars ACV (actual cash value). Ultimately it will depend on mileage and overall condition of the vehicle. Although this car in particular does appear to be a border line total loss it is very much repairable but the question is it cost effective?? If it is totalled it will go to auction and someone will buy it and repair it and it will be back on the road with a branded title.

awww i was hoping it could be saved. Curtain airbags and the side airbag on the passenger door deployed. The bodyshop said it doesn't look like it'll be totaled since the frame looks to be fine, although the insurance adjustor has to come out and look at it still. I'm still CPO'ed and have audicare. I'm browsing online for CPO'ed cars through audi's website and I see some similar USP's listed 19-26k. Anyone familiar with the value Allstate gives?

my guess is totaled, but could be wrong. that's allot of body work right there and new airbags aren't cheap by any stretch of the imagination.

Looking at the photos it needs, curtain bags and passenger bag/Dashboard which is pretty pricey and labor intensive also sensors and control modules, a pair of doors and a RT Quarter panel, new rocker molding, Body side moldings for the doors, possibly window regulators as they are probebly crushed and blend the RT Fender. A set up and pre-pull on the RT Center post and RT Outer wheelhouse and a few hours repair and refinish on the post. Repairable Yes... Cost effective???

Allstate will probably use a company called Auto Source for the evaluation if it is determined to be totalled but if you look at NADA "Average Retail" it should be pretty close to that.

my friend had the same damage to his dolphin gray a4... they fixed it.. cost about 11,000 in repairs.

Seriously, this was the first time I've taken pictures of my car and fast forward a few hours and this. Sorry no parting out, especially since I bought it from the dealer as a USP and don't have any parts.

I think this car has been jinxed in the past 2 months. It's been towed 3 times, coilpacks, water in the ECM shorted out some fuses, and this. In the past year it was also hit on the opposite side, which required the both doors being replaced and the left rear quarter panel, much less damage than this though because before the B pillar wasn't touched at all(someone scraped along the side of my parked car). Also was rear ended which required trunk, and entire rear bumper to be replaced, none of which was my fault. Heck, if they fix this the only original panels will be the hood, front bumper/quarter panels, and roof.

Yupp! Thats what happened to my friends Passat (basically the vw version of the a4).. some lady reverse onto him in a parking lot at like 2mph, and the side airbags deployed.. so the insurance called it "Salvaged".. aka TOTALED.. Sorry man!

Street parking along with winters in Chicago are not good for 18 inch wheels.

Estimate came back at $10,100, half of that is the airbags. Allstate is going to fix it, dunno how I feel about it.

Can I request for it to be totaled? I have no idea how this process would work. Do I contact Allstate directly or should I ask the insurance adjustor?

I'd meet with your adjuster, slip him a bill and tell him to claim it totaled .

Where as it's not really close to totalled you cant request for them to total it. Your best bet is to have it repaired get it back looking clean as ever and if you dont want it just sell it. The whole side of it will have been painted so shine the rest of her up and put a for sale sign on it.

Just got off the phone again with the insurance adjustor. With my cars mileage and the condition it's in, for it to be totaled repairs would have to exceed $18,000. I guess my cars worth more than I thought. Dunno if thats a good thing or a bad thing.

Same shop that fixed it before has it, I should take this chance to go widebody, ahah.

God I wish ppl would stop saying that it's simply not true plain and simple I have been in the Collision Industry for several years and have worked at a few shops and repair facilities assume so much liablility if they dont repair a car properly they would get sued for everything they're worth. What you really should do is do some research on the shop you want to do your repairs. The car has not sustained substantial Unibody damage/Frame damage therefore if the sheet metal panels are repaired/replaced properly you will never have any problems and almost all repair shops warranty the work for as long as you own the vehicle. Ultimately its up to you, if you r not upside down in the car I would consider having it fixed and selling it and get something else.

Yea I own the car no liens. Part of me was hoping for it to be totaled, I was eyeing this B7 S4, which would have been as good as mine if they had totaled it.

I feel a little unscrupolous and bad selling the vehicle after the accident to another person, when I disclose the accident I'll get nowhere near what the car is worth.

I have confidence in the repair shop, close family friend and have been in business for over 30 years. They said it can be fixed as close to new as possible and I believe them.

While it's in the shop I think I'll get some other things done that I've been wanting to do while its there . . .

I read the last couple of posts, then scrolled up to the pictures.....Although it would be nice to have it totaled, the damage doesn't look all that extensive.....Have it repaired by a very reputable shop, and I think you'll be golden....

You shouldnt feel bad about selling it there are so many wrecked and repaired cars worse than yours out on the road and pppl drive them everyday. Why you ask?...because they have been repaired properly to "Pre Loss condition" by a proffessional shop and will be driven into the ground by someone. Honestly I wouldnt be concerned about its repairs especially if you know the shop doing them. My last B5 I bought at a salvage yard and a technician at my work and I repaired it and I drove it for quite some time before selling it and never had a single problem that was consistent with damages caused during the accident Good Luck with whatever you choose
