    Have a FAN running problem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a 2001 a4 1.8t and the problem is, when i rev the car you can hear the fan running, it gets faster as i rev it more, kinda sounds like a old jeep Cherokee when its revved at standstill and sounds like a huge fan is running under the hood from outside when driven, what could cause this.. Also, the car when warmed up, the coolant temp needle will sit 2 bars below the center bar, it goes back to center when driving at low speeds, but on the highway it sits 2 bar below the center bar.

    help will be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Prey

ill get a video up as soon as possible.

thats the way its supposed to be. center is running at regular temp and during fast moving traffic or cold days it should be about 1-2 bars below center. if its louder than usual i would say check the belts or the fan clutch but it sounds perfectly normal. the stock fan is belt driven and rpm dependent. mine sounded like yours until i went electric.

weird because my 99.5 car never did this, is this like a facelift thing, because, i think the fan gets louder as as i rev the car more. Also, Im talking about the main fan, not the AC one, the AC one turns on when i turn the AC on, that is normal.

Re: Have a FAN running problem

Check your Main Fan's thermaostat ,normaly the fan starts when the car overheats or if the gear is at natural. I think your fan is always running.

Re: Have a FAN running problem

the main fan always does run... its run off a belt and attached to the fan clutch and a connected by a belt to the alternator and power steering. the higher the rpm the faster it spins. ITS NORMAL!

Re: Have a FAN running problem

you guys think its my fan clutch, cuz i think the viscous fan clutch is stuck and its always engaged fully since the fan is rpm dependent.

Re: Have a FAN running problem

When a fan clutch locks up it will often sound like an airplane propeller. If you think there is something wrong and it is too loud there is something wrong with it. I can't hear my fan.

it gets loud, someone can hear me coming, since the fan is rpm dependent, i think its my fan clutch, any inputs from any of you guys before i order a electric fan kit.

Re: Have a FAN running problem

does it do it all the time? because if it is just when you first start it up, the noise could be attributed to the SAI pump as it runs to light off the catalyst. also does your electric fan stay on all the time (even with ac off)? if so, possible shorted fan or fan ctrl module. check the belts and use a long screw driver or prybar as a stethescope (put against a non moving part in area of noise and other end in your ear). this will help isolate the noise. diagnosed my p/s pump that way. cold operating temp could be stuck thermostat, temp sensor, or overactive (shorted) electric fan. good luck.

The electric fan only runs when i turn the AC on, the one that is rpm dependent is the main radiator fan.
