    Vinny Mod on the S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Welp after seeing Trexturks cupra lip I decided I needed something done on my front end so for a quick, cheap and possibly temporary fix I decided to take on the "Vinny Mod"
This is done by adhering a garage door flap material from your local Home Depot and 3m taping it to the front bumper.
I'm a little skeptical with it right now, but I am going to give it a little time to grow on me and for the material to settle from being rolled up all of its life.
I got mine nice a black by Plasti-dip'ing mine a couple days before i put it on.
Here it is... comments, questions and criticisms welcome!!

Looks sweet and I have been thinking about this same mod. I just wonder how robust it will be especially the first time you pull into a low driveway or something like that. Would be good if you can follow up in a few weeks and let us know how it's holding up.
    Current - 2011 B8 S4 DSG Presitge - APR Stg 1 | RS4 Grill | Magnaflow Xpipe and Mufflers | K&N | Apikol Rear Diff Mount (Race)| H&R OE Sports | Avant Garde M310 19X9.5 ET 40

IMO, you did a really good job putting that up there and finishing it well. Honest-to-god good craftsmanship right there, and I mean that. I have mixed feelings about how it actually looks though, so it'll be nice to see it after it settles, as you say.

Re: Vinny Mod on the S4

good job man...i was the first B7 to have this done on the forum, and i recently re-did my lip and plasti-dipped it too and also brought it out further to make it look more like a lip...id suggest one thing to you. to extend it out past the bumper line just alittle bit to make it look more like a front lip. people have ultimately confused mine with the cupra lip time and time again. trust me itll look alot better. your car looks hot though

Re: Vinny Mod on the S4

i really appreciate all of the comments folks!

the one thing I am having trouble with is the little lip right before the bumper hits the wheel well, that lip is kind of throwing off the "rigidity" that chin spoilers are supposed to possess but I will be able to live with it for now and hopefully down the road I will get back under the car, actually get a tape measure and get the positioning down to a T. But for right now as a subtle accent I am completely happy with my $38 mod

    P.S. HRE's are in the mail !

IMO, I don't think the vinny mod splitter works well on bumpers with a rounded bottom. It looks out of place. It needs a flat bottom bumper like the USP to pull it off. Your brake rotors, on the other hand, look very nice!

On another note, has anyone attempted to remove a vinny mod? Just wondering how much of a pain getting all that adhesive tape off is??? What did you use? Fishing line?

I completely agree with you. The vinny on the USP fits perfect. I do think this is subtle enough to hang on to for a little while at least.

shotty pic again but thanks for the compliment and critique!!

It's funny how everyone thinks they invented this mod (not referring to you OP), people have been doing the weatherstripping trick for a long time.

I agree with everyone. I would consider maybe shaving the part up to the wheel-well. Make it mold to the bumper a little more. I really like the idea, and the car looks really clean. I'm debating this type of thing on my non-usp a4.....

I want something that protects a cf splitter in the front - how great would that sell?

I know plenty of people who want to slam their cars but are just afraid of the front valence scraping on everything.

Oh, and on this note, I thought include a picture of a custom bumper a sponsor made for my friend's car. He scraped on freeway offramps haha

I think it looks pretty good considering how cheap the materials were. Most DIY stuff is marginal in my opinion. I think yours turned out well though.

I think most DTM owners can say the same at stock height. I tried to take a shortcut through an alley today on beverly --> coldwater (Los Angeles) and i knew there was a dip at the end, still couldnt avoid scraping pretty damn badly.

yeah definitely taper the edges leading to the wheel wells to make it more resemble the one you modeled it after.

Beverly hills sucks. I avoid driving through there with my new car cause no matter how sick i think my car is that place will always make me feel like I haven't got anything.

What do you mean by Plasti-Dip?? I think it looks sweet. I would probably go with the cupra since it is an OEM part but if this is rigid and as cheap as you say then I see no problem with it. Good job, straight ride.

Re: Vinny Mod on the S4

plasti-dip is a rubberized spray paint. adheres pretty well. The original color of the material was a dark flay gray, threw some paint on it to make it "prettier"

and just in case anyone is wondering.. i still plan on re-shaping the lip near the wheel well. just have to find some time

Yeah, I can appreciate the effort put into it, and much props for making it look as good as it does, but it still doesn't come close to looking like anything I would pay for on my car. Since you paid very little that can be excusable, which is why I give you props for the effort, but I think this is one of those mods where you can totally tell it's a cheap DIY, which is not something that everyone wants to exude.
