    GT71R held 35 PSI!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This was all in my dreams, btw ........

So last night, as I was taking on this pretty white 335i from a roll on, I noticed that as I was pulling on him my car started to buck slighty so I let off and then the 335 eventually passed me. We lined up again. Same results. I had him by a car then I started buckying again so I'm like WTF??
Turns out that my profec b is no longer controlling boost because I was hitting 37 PSI and holding 35 PSI. I would have loved to have seen what the logs looked like.

Here's a picture I took of the display on my profec b right after the runs. This screen shows what the peak boost was:

I guess I need a new solenoid of EBC all together. When I turned the boost controller off, boost only goes up to 14 PSI, which is what the wastegate is set at.

    Re: GT71R held 35 PSI!!!

It's been working fine for over 5 months until last night. Funny thing is, all of a sudden today, its working just fine and controlling boost again. Weird! I think the solenoid is dying. I wonder what Greddy would say or if they even sell replacement solenoids for their EBC's.

Greddy went bankrupt very recently.....there was a thread about it in the B5 section a few weeks ago.

Sucks to see that tho.....I've had very very good customer service from Greddy when they were up and running

    Re: GT71R held 35 PSI!!!

It was a boost spike but the rest of the tune probably wasn't in alignment to handle the high boost. Not a good equation.

Now, if the tune is set-up to handle that much boost.... It'll pull hard

    Re: GT71R held 35 PSI!!!

Didn't hold that boost for very long thats for sure, we have problems getting Greg's to hold 25psi at the drag races.

Plus at 35-37psi that GT71r has to be running at less then 50% efficiency.

Just be glad you didn't JEFF LEE the engine.

Totally agree. Had to be detonating.

dude, did the car pull insanely hard?
Shits was pulling like a mofo up until like 32 PSI then as it approached 35 it started detonating but ever so slighty.

That's incredible. Are you running a stock bottom end?
    Stock bottom end.

Didn't hold that boost for very long thats for sure, we have problems getting Greg's to hold 25psi at the drag races.
It held and held and held until I was forced to back off and this was just beyond 6K RPMs.

[doh!] Yea be glad your shit is still in one piece!!
I am very lucky. I bet the ECU was pulling timing back like crazy!

What did your car dyno at? I dont see you staying with a stock 335 let alone a modded one. They put down more power factory than your car and they are lighter

When I dyno'd 265.4awhp, I was able to walk my neighbors 335i and it's stock. His is also an auto. Now that I'm putting more power down, I know I can hang walk a chipped 335i (most likely auto), which I'm sure the one I saw last night was.

EDIT: When I did my dyno, the temps were nearly 100 degrees and humidity being above 80%.

I maybe interested but I hear there's like quite a few wires to connect. I'm looking to connect like 4 wires at most, like the profec was. Power, ground, solenoid, and the vacuum/boost lines of course.

All I did was connect a power and ground wire under the steering column. I then connected the vacuum/boost reader to my intake manifold (where my boost gauge is hooked up) and hooked up the solenoid valve over next to the turbo and ran the wires. I cut the wiring harness in half so I could snake it through the rubber boot that goes into the ECu box without messing with the connectors for the solenoid and vacuum/boost reader.

There are other connections you can add to use the full capability of the AVC-R but what I have connected are the basic connections to get it working for mananging boost. Condo (John) and CO Avant (Jordan) also run this EBC and I think John has a signal converter on his RPM wire so he can use the boost by gear function (different boost curves for each gear in the trans) and a few other functionalities.

I'll let you know what I decide once I get my car back.
