Re-design of dash mounted cup holder from B6 to B7?

I have to admit that I rarely use the dash mounted cup holder in my B6, but every once in a while when I do need it, it's mostly worthless. It works great for holding a cup of coffee at a dead stop, but as soon as you *touch* the gas the cup tips backwards & arcs towards the back seat.

I know that Germans typically don't understand why people would drink a beverage when they should be concentrating on driving but come on, they should have at least tested this feature before shipping it. Maybe this is some sort of inside joke with the Audi engineering team.

Anyway, did they revise the design of the dash cup holder in the B7? If so, is the updated version swappable into the B6 dash above the double DIN stereo?

(for the record, the cup holders in my BMW hold cans of Coke just fine at 0.95 G's. Only speed bumps cause problems :)

talkin to you in multiple threads hahaha. the new cup holders are relocated right next to the ebrake and under the armrest(unless its a can you have to raise the armrest up to use both) they got rid of that god awful dash mount cupholder that flings cups rather than holding them... i cant even count how many times that happened to me with my b6... luckily it never happened to me with a full cup hahaha

i completely agree that it is a joke from audi... just like the damn e brake knocking the arm rest up everytime u park the car

They replaced the in-dash cupholder with a second card holder.

AFAIK I do not think they are interchangeable as there is a dead button used in the B7 to the right of the card holder.

For the record, the card holder is worthless as well. Have you ever put a card in there and tried to retrieve it? Unless you have fake nails, it's an impossible task I tell you.

I put the quattro badge that used to be on the rear hatch in the cardholder to help angle any cards I store in there.

Push down on one side and they fan out for you to pick up.

Soooo agreed on the B6 cup holder. I don't even like making coffee in the morning anymore because i dread the drive to work. I will say though, i never had that problem with my B5.... perhaps they are interchangeable?

I use the card holder much more than the cupholder. Parking passes fit great in there, as well as my business cards. Since we're on the topic, also love the little sun shade above the rear mirror, and the little red light inside the armrest. Gotta love german gadgets

I agree with mitch, that's what goes in my card holder. And the "cup holder" makes a fine place to stow my treo.

If I must have a drink it goes in the arm rest.

    OMG...HATE THAT. FTL. FTmfL

p.s. the 2005/2006 cars had an even worse design than B6...same setup, but the armrest instead of having a little button to allow it to be lowered, had this weird design where (after releasing the brake for example) you had to lift the armrest to vertical, then it would just go right down till you stopped. Heaven forbid you should put any change, sunglasses or anything in the top compartment of the armrest...it all sloshes around everytime. Fortunately they changed back in time for 2007, which I own. My friend has a 2006, and he fking hates that!
