Labor is about 2 arms, 1 leg (from hip down), and an ass. AKA easily 2k at a dealership. And who is to say that once they are replaced, whether or not they will crack again.

    I was gonna say that.

I doubt AWE is paying the labor, loss time of having the car in the shop and long term hidding damage to the engine.

    Re: Broken AWE manifold...

i was kind of curious how the high end aftermarket headers would hold up with the turbos just hanging off the end without any support, now i know.

I remember the thread bashing the Ebay headers and a link to a british guy who bought them, re welded them and added the support onto the turbo flange that the OEM headers apparently have.

Well in theory, they are also supported by the downpipe, as the downpipe is held up in several locations.

I hate to be negative but you will have this problem again even Bracing the turbo wrong will make it crack faster then it did the first time. I dont see anyway 100% way of solving the problem because material used is material used and you cant change that...

How could it get that bad before he heard any thing. I mean it must of been as loud as fuck. Has any one heard of the stock manifolds doing this... sickens me to think I could have this issue down the road. If the stock ones were failing too, I wouldn't fill as bad.
P.S. I also hate the AW format.
AWE, GIAC, Stasis,KO4s, bla bla bla this is getting a bit ridiculous. I hope it will end soon.

I bought the car with the manifolds already installed. I did not purchase them, nor would i ever spend 3g on them myself. They were on the car for 45k. The turbos look to be in good condition and there isnt much shaft play. The loss of exhaust flow due to the hairline cracks wasnt that bad to overwork the turbos too much. This wasnt noticible until the manifold actually broke like you see in the picture.

Apparently all these thin style tubi manis crack. So if you have them installed, keep your engine crane close by or fatten up your wallet...

AW format is not as pretty as AZ, but comming from their, this format looks to be very confusing to me. You guys might not like it because you are used to this style. Its more old school over thier.

shouldn't be overworking the turbo with an exhaust leak. think about it.

the only thing that's happening is its taking longer to reach required boost but once it does the turbo is still working just as hard as it did before the exhaust leak.

its not like a boost leak scenario where the turbo actually has to work harder than maximum to reach the computers requested boost to compensate for the air bleeding out.

its like trying to fill a bucket with water.. one with a busted pump(before pressure side(exhaust leak)). it just takes longer to fill the bucket but it still will fill it. so essentially its not overworking

but if the bucket has a hole(like a boost leak).. even a regular well working pump wont fill it.. so youd have to overwork the pump to fill it while its still bleeding air.

at most.. hell have an under boost scenario or noticeably more lag

You cant change the weak stainless, no matter what you do even if you reweld every joint its like welding two turds together
you still have a turd and the metal will crack next to the weld.. The metal is very fragile and thin and not the same SS quality that we use and thats certified here. This is very obvious when you see rust forming spots on stainless, the reason why it does show some rust sometimes and weakness is do to the small percent of nickel and chromium thats added with no carbon"usually not like ours"..

I wouldn't call AW my post rage. I didnt even start this thread here on AZ. I posted "broken manifolds" and some pics. I didnt even say who they were from. the forum called out awe on it not me. And, once again, I bought this car used. It has had three other owners. the first owner purchased them and had awe install them. They have been on for 45k and they are at least four years old. Now with that info, do you think awe would exchange these for a new pair? absolutly not. Nor will i spend one dollar out of my pocket to have them fixed, or exchanged. I would never spend 3g on a new set either. These are novelty item at best. I replaced the broken ones with stock manifolds. I posted pictures up of the broken ones so the forum could see what happens to them. i did not do that to bitch and complain about awe.

    I'm done here.

    Re: Broken AWE manifold...

exhaust leaks pre turbo on one side can be dangerous to both turbos. the weak side cannot produce the boost effieciently as the exhaust pressure is less, so the other side works harder to compensate. and on the leaky side, high temps around the leak are very hazardous the the turbo, lines, engine, etc. not good, not good at all i'm afraid. i hope everything works out.
