My clutch catch point is really high... its all the way at the top at the release point. Is my clutch on its way out? If so, what should I replace it with?

Re: Clutch catch point is high

There are a couple threads discussing this. Most of them confirm that the clutch engagement point is high.

Re: Clutch catch point is high

mine is annoyingly high also. Some say its due to clutch wear, but I've had 2 B5's and they were both this way.

Yup, same. 2 B5's and I've replaced the clutch in BOTH. Engagement height exact same after replacement. If you still think clutch is on its way out do the 4th/5th gear test. (low speed 40ish put it in 4th/5th and floor it. If clutch holds you are good, if on its way out it should slip)

130K miles and my stock clutch is fine. Catches high as a mofo though, but doesn't slip.

Re: Clutch catch point is high

same. My clutch point catches at probably an inch away from the top. It was really hard to get used to but now i got it no problem after some months practice. The annoying thing is, is that its so different from normal clutches that nobody can drive my damn car. I dont let any of my friends try ever again because the first time they drove it i felt they were gunna stall my car over and over or just burn it up! My only friend that could drive it was one that was used to Porsche clutches, iv heard they are very similar.

but anyway yea, i test drove a b6 and it seemed to be very similar, maybe a little lower then my b5. BTW 121k miles stock clutch

I changed out my stock clutch at 96k miles and even with the new one the catch point is still high.

Re: Clutch catch point is high

my b6 is the same as is my friends b7.

My theory is that audi designed in the high engagement point to allow for the engine to spool up a bit when going from a stop. i think it is an intentional feature for a turbo engine.
are the 2.8/3.0/3.2 clutches the same? actually, don't they use the same clutch? if so it's probably the same.
