    WFT? Please help if possible!

I'm driving home today and out of nowhere my check engine light starts flashing. The car was still driving normal but the I was about 10 minutes from home.

As I come to the last few stops by my house (shortly after the light starts flashing) I'm noticing that it is idleing rough at slow speeds. It still drives and accelerates kinda normally, but just with a slight hesitation.

When I pull into my drive way and actually listen to the engine, it sounds like it's gonna fall apart. A loud noise coming from the engine compartment.

I pop the hood and I can tell if the noise is coming from a pulley or from inside the engine!

No other light came on in the dash and the gauges all read normal.

Can any of you give me any advice as to what this might be?

dont trip, its a coil.... pull out the coils 1 at a time and when you get to the 1 that does not change anything, its the coil you will need to change. coils are like 40 bucks. have fun

X2. Definitely sounds like a bad coil.

Re: WFT? Please help if possible!

Thank you guys for the help! I'm really hoping that's the problem! So I'm assuming that the coils are the three that are located in the front of the engine that the plug wires run into right? I'll just go and unplug each wire one at a time until I reach the one that doesn't make a difference.

But would a bad coil cause that kind of noise to come out of my engine?

make your car seem like its going fall apart, and check engine light comes on too! it sucks, you should have one in your glove as a spare, because they go bad alot.

LOL!!! I remember, when my first coil pack blew in my S4. I swore I blew my engine, or the timing belt let go at the time it started, just about crapped myself. Always keep a spare in the trunk, you never know when one will go.

    Good Luck

Re: WFT? Please help if possible!

Thank you again guys, I really appreciate it!

Well I don;t think it's a coil pack, I pulled the wire closest to the engine from each pack, one at a time. In all instances, the engine idle (although really rough alreay) seemed to get slightly worse. Also, as I moved the wire back to place it onto the coil, a strong spark arc'ed each time which leads me to beleive that they are functioning correctly.

I went down to Sear's and bought a handheld scanner to pull the codes. Here's what I have:

    P0341 : Camshaft position sensor A circuit range/performance (bank 1 or single)

    P0300 : Random misfire detected

    P0301 : Cylinder 1 misfire detected

    P0303 : Cylinder 3 misfire detected

    P0302 : Cylinder 2 misfire detected

    Does this help at all?

Re: WFT? Please help if possible!

Well P0301, P0302, P0303, all most likely are coil packs. I had three blow on me after I went stage 3 on my S4, and put in a new tune, so it is possible. Not sure about P0341

dont panic its still not a big deal, i would take it to a audi mechanic and have him diagnose it again. maybe 1 of your sensors is probably bad.

Re: WFT? Please help if possible!

    61k miles. Thank you again!

I just read the link you pasted. In the last posters remarks, he refer's to the "CMP". Is that the cam positioning sensor or something else?

Quote Originally Posted by Daft View Post

    P0301-Cyl.1 Misfire Detected (bank1)
    P0302-Cyl.2 Misfire Detected (bank1)
    P0303-Cyl.3 Misfire Detected (bank1)

All of these codes are directly related. If the CMP is off, the plugs will misfire on that bank. Bank1 is Cylinders 1-3. This also will prevent the car from running.

P0300-Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected is indicating that more than one cylinder is misfiring.

P1113 is not related and says that the bank 1 primary O2 sensor's heater was not operating properly. The car would still run this way.

P1347 is saying that Bank2's cam sensor is seeing an out of sequence situation. This is related to Bank1's bad CMP readings.

Re: WFT? Please help if possible!

I think I'm going over to Audi to poick one up tomorrow. I'll just replace it as I'd rather not tow it all the way down there and have it sit for a week (that's how long it will take to see my car).

    I hope this works!

    Not that I've seen.

I do wonder however. I replaced the vacuum hoses and the suction jet pump 2 days ago. It had run fine since I did it, but do you guys think that something could have gone wrong with that?
