    Rebuilding a 2.8

So i've been thinkin about the future of my car... Its a 2.8 nearing 140k.
Runs strong, i love the car. But, I'm leaving for basic training jan 6th so i need to make some decisions regarding the future of my audi.

Ideally, i'd like to keep it, and fix it up a bit(intake, exhaust, chip, suspension), maybe supercharge for a nice DD, but before i would do any of that, i'd need to make sure it isnt going to die on me in 50k miles.

So, is it possible to rebuild a 2.8? would it be easier to swap a 1.8t motor into it? Or should i just trade it in towards an e36 M3?

Honestly, i love the car, i think its a quality machine, and i'd rather keep as my DD AND buy an M :), but im just worried about when it gets around 200k and dies, and what i will do.

So let me know what you guys think.

it's time to sell. the old 2.8 is not a robust engine for mods and yes, yours will go eventually; you're better off saving up for that m3. a rebuild is not worth your trouble.

you have a 30v right? i dont see why it would just die if its still going strong.

    Re: Rebuilding a 2.8

    don't rebuild it.
talk with Eurospec(Overland as the dealer) to build you a short block. then put on a G2 SC, other supporting mods. you will have a kick ass ride.
and upgrade your clutch as well.

Drive it til it blows up than rebuild it if you really like the car.

is there any reason you think it would need a rebuild? there are s/c cars with more miles on that on a stock engine.

i just imagine SC'ing a high mileage motor could be problematic.

140+ 0n mine with 40 k with the blower. The bottom end should be fine. valve seals, cam tensioner seals and gaskets. The rings might be a week point in a high mileage scd car. Try scaudi.com.

good luck with whatever you decide
