Anyone on here running different cams with Revo and a Eliminator setup. I have a set of TT cams, wondering if I could benefit from installing them.

Re: TT cams with REVO and 2871R Elim

They should be the same for the 170 and 225 HP model as well as the B6 A4 model. I checked first-hand and BobQ verified for me. I have/had a complete AMU motor (225HP).

The only thing 'special' in the 225HP model are the pistons and connecting rods (forged). Everything else is the same as all other 06A block 1.8Ts. That motor was basically a K04 turbo with upgraded pistons and rods and a lower compression ratio to net 225hp.

    --Thread jack

Is the TT225 a direct swap into b6? Any difference in transverse mounted engine? Seems like they could be pretty different.

Its the same block. 06a casting.

My 2.0L is an AMU block bored and stroked and I have a semi-built AMU head (aftermarket valves, cams and OEM springs and lifters) on it as well.

^yeah, basically to swap a transverse motor into your car you need to swap oil pans.... and i think that's basically it. (and manifolds etc. but we're just talking about the block)

there was something else, but i cant remember. swapping pans so that you can put your snub bracket on is the biggest though. everything else just bolts right up.

Like Daniel said. The only major thing I had to swap over was the oil pan and the oil pump pick-up. Everything else is the same but you also want all your B6 accessory drives. I have all the TT stuff in my basement. Its not the same as the B6, might be the same as the B5 but I have not checked.

Why? Its a finacky motor on a good day, its ECU is not as intelligent as the ME7, it uses narrow-band o2 sensors, it has numerous problems, the k03 turbos have a tendency to blow in an untimely manner, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

add to that finding a low-milage example of such a motor is getting more and more difficult....I say no thanks...just as much power with half the cost and half the heartache can easilly be had on a 1.8t (and that is discounting the cost of actually swapping and wiring the engine).

I have heard of some 2.7tt's hitting 600-700 hp...i don't think any 1.8t's are close to that.

If you have the money to consider first off swapping the 2.7 then getting a twin GT setup for it, your not the person posting on here asking if it can be done. Your the person that put down probably 30-40k to do it and its either in progress or done

some yes, this is NOT a common number for a 2.7t. A fairly typical stage 3/3+ s4 is doing ~400whp give or take 50. This is a barrier getting closer and closer to being crossed as a reasonably common 1.8t BT application, and can be done for half the cost excluding the cost of buying an engine. Keep in mind that turbo choices for the 2.7t are limited at best, that changing just about anything other than the oil filter requires pulling the engine, that there are two of everything turbo related, and that fueling kits to get to that level are VERY expensive and more often than not require custom tuning, also a very pricey proposition. Also existing RS4 parts which are enormously popular can be hard to get based on limited production from the factory, that the turbos and other associated OEM parts suffer from a VERY serious $ to Euro conversion factor (an rs4 turbo set retails for north of $2000....for tiny little k04s), etc etc etc.

just not practical, nor even beneficial in any way. I personally would rather try and find a way to cram a 20v 5cyl into my car than a 2.7t....lots of marvelous things about that all-but-forgotten engine that was some of the best engineering work VAG ever did.

Yeah, if you read eurotuner magazine you would be familiar with the castrol top shop challenge where there is a shop building a 20v 5cyl to take on the ricer imports and domestics as well. Last I heard they were aiming at 600-700 hp. That is a hell of an engine, it's just kind of old isn't it?

So is/has anyone running/ran different cams with a 71r elim? Will it have any benefits on this setup?

I ran 3651's on my gtrs...but I also went to 2.0 at that point as well so it's hard for me to justify the gains made just on the cams alone... 4.5K+ range is much stronger if I can put it in to terms of improvement.
