    E-brake questions

am trying to remove the E-brake cable that seets on the lower control arm at the rear of the car.
the thing is, there is a rubber grommet not letting it pass thru holes that are in the lower control arm. i don't want to cut the grommet or file it cuz i want to reuse it.
am i going the right way at tackling this or there is another way.
i'll post some pics if need be for some.
    Thanx- Til

    Re: E-brake questions

I just did this this weekend. Once I unclipped the plastic lock, the whole brake cable slid out no problem. The star shaped rubber part didn't give me any problem at all. The only problem I had was trying to unclip the plastic lock.....oh, and trying to get the passenger side out from around the rear diff mount. What about a silicone lube or something along those lines.....

    Re: E-brake questions

You know what......I was looking more at your pic. Is this on the driver's side? Because if I'm correct, you're trying to pull the cable out the wrong way.

If I'm right, the black washer looking thing at the bottom right of your picture was clipped into your lower control arm. If you have that unclipped, the cable should slide out the other way you have it illustrated......

it won't slide out since the cables are connected to the brake box, where obviously the hand brake is.

    Re: E-brake questions

ok. If you've already disconnected the cable from the caliper, then the only way to get it out is to slide it towards the rear of the car and you have to have the cable disconnected from the e brake handle. There isn't enough slack in these lines to pull them out without taking it all apart. Also, the cable CAN'T come out towards the front of the car, has to be towards the back.

What are you trying to do? If it's the passenger side cable, I couldn't get it off my car without cutting it.....
