need help

hey i havea thread up in the b5 s4 forum about my car shaking when i rev it up past 2-3k whuile parked... also shakes when driving if that info helps at all... it feels like the body is skaing not the engine

anyway no check engine lights

would vag-com help?

My only guess would be really bad misfires, or some broken mounts somewhere. sorry i can't be of more help. besides the body cant shake without it being the motor, VAG it and find out.

Sounds like you have a bad motor mount

check your spark plugs and make sure if your chipped, that they are gapped appropriately. I know on my car if you are chipped, your gapping needs to change from .32 to .28 and upgrade the plugs.

i belive my motor mounts are fine... i just replaced my front snub mount that was bad and now my engine doesnt move nearly as much as it used to... if my mounts were bad wouldnt i be able to see the engine move?

what would cause misfires?


i wish i had vag... anyone close by willing to come by and vag my car? i work in a wine and beer warehouse so id be able to hookyou up with something i got at my house if not ill get you some lunch or something

misfires can most commonly be cause by spark plugs being gapped too wide, especially in forced induction cars and chipped cars. To resolve that issue, get new spark plugs and gap them smaller. its .28 for my a4 2.0t

it started all at once about 3 weeks ago but i havent driven it since just have been starting it in driveway... when it first happend i had a sulfur smell(guessing bad cats?) .. but since has gone away which isnt making sence


so no one has vag com close by? would i hurt the car more by attempting to drive it about 3-4 miles to autozone

Not sure if that would be your issue but i still think it's from misfires.

Hmmm, i'm not sure it would work, but idk. I'd stick with a vag-com

ok well heres the deal... got it to autozone.. and had to convince the guy to check for codes because my check engine light wasnt on.... IT PASSED didnt find any codes

so im guessing this rules out misfires

could it be a clogged cat.?

also the shaking has reduced alot maybe the snub mount just had to settle in place?(read that somewhere)... the car still just doesnt seem to run right .. maybe im jsut being paranoid..

...explain please... i know bad coilpacks would cause misfires which would casue car not to run well/shake?... would bad coilpacks come up on a real vag-com? .. or is what they use at autozone equivilent to vag?.... sorry ... please educate me

my first coilpack never threw a cel with the symptom for a while (over 200 miles)...then, the next time the symptoms happened, i never got cel but i just replaced all old ones.

it depend on what autozone used to scan the car, VAG can also read soft codes/ codes that don't emit a CEL. So there might be something a VAG-Com might detect. Do you have a boost gauge, what is your idle hg at?
does the car go into boost, how much ? what happens?

gotcha... umm 16-21 hg idle .. its in stock mode so boost spikes to 10-11.. tappers to 8ish... when it doesnt feel normal is at idle/when im just starting to go... i did a 45-80mph pull and it felt fine... but my idle seems to be rough but rpm stay just about same...

well just thought id throw in another update for informational purposes ...

anyway vernon (highPSI-s4) came over today to vag the car after symptoms of shaking and noises got much much worse... had tons of misfires in cyl 4 and plently in a couple others... so we switched out ICM and misfires almost went awaay... just have some here and there and hope new coilpacks and sparkplugs will get rid of them
