    '02 B6 A4 1.8TQ, any weakness that needs repair/replacement?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi
With about 60,000 miles on it, please advice should I pull the trigger to buy it? Anything to watch out for in the future for potential major repairs/replacments? My first turbo quattro, so quite worried about these 2 major components especially.

    Thanks

quattro is solid. turbo at 60k should not be an issue, so long as the car has been properly maintained.

i would as about records of work done on the car. oil changes etc.

timing belt should be considered pretty soon if it has not already been replaced. the water pump is a known weakness and can cause timing belt failure.

other than that, 02 sport is the supposed lowest of factory suspension, has heated rear seats and perforated (air) leatherette seating surfaces. a nice ride.

    Re: '02 B6 A4 1.8TQ, any weakness that needs repair/replacement?

Thanks for the reply. just found out that the ride had quite a no. of modifications done, off the top my head that I could remembered are:

    1. MTM Stage 3 with K04
    2. 18" rims
    3. MTM clutch
    4. Stoptech front BBK
    5. K&N air filter
    6. Broquet
    7. sway bars
    8. ICE
    etc

The list goes on. I'm a sticker for minimal mods when I buy a used car, so quite a bit worried when I heard about the mods. Or should I not be worried?

He also mentioned that the fuel consumption wasn't much affected at 9km/L for city driving....was wondering after all these mods it's still not good? Any comments?

I was a little worried too since I just bought mine with mods, some I still am trying to get the info on what they are. But the car runs so solid and after reading on here how well they are just keeping maintained you should be fine. Looks like some good mods to start also, enjoy the car i know i am!

Oh yeah man you should be totally worried. Since I'm such a compassionate and caring person, I'll swap you my k03/brakes/17" wheels/sway bars, for your icky k04/BBK/18's/and upgraded sway bars.

Lol. To the OP, it sounds like the car is actually quite tastefully modded, so I would assume that it has been well maintained as well. I say go for it

before u buy, just check the usual..oil, if u can compression test it, make sure its hitting correct boost and runs smooth, something i did not do when i bought mine, was check the damn coolant resevoir, make sure it dosnt look like coffee like mine did.. sounds like a pretty stable car from the mods, sounds like who ever did them knew what they were doin

    good luck

    Re: '02 B6 A4 1.8TQ, any weakness that needs repair/replacement?

    1. MTM Stage 3 with K04
that is not my dept, but I am sure you'd hear folks with arguments for or against this being a bonus.

    2. 18" rims
18 is average/conservative on most peoples standards. i personally would not go larger, but that is just me. 18 is a nice balance of looks and performance, but does give up some ride quality over 17's.

    3. MTM clutch
I'd love a new performance clutch.

    4. Stoptech front BBK
great brakes. not oem, but you could easily sell them (for cheap to me please!)

    5. K&N air filter
only concern is if it is over-oiled when cleaned. otherwise it's great

    6. Broquet
i actually do not even know what this is.

    7. sway bars
dramatically improves the handling of the car. I personally do not notice any change in ride quality on normal driving, just better in the turns.

    8. ICE
if you have an ipod, why wouldn't you want this?
    etc

The list goes on. I'm a sticker for minimal mods when I buy a used car, so quite a bit worried when I heard about the mods. Or should I not be worried?

depending on the price this car has a lot of the work done to it that most folks on here do anyway. you will not hear too many folks saying bad stuff about them (unless they are trying to buy the car out from under you....
    good luck.

I'll tell you what man, if you want to save yourself some dough and have a car that is actually fun to drive, this is the way to go. I bought my car with all the go mods already installed (full revo k04, and all supporting mods). The car had 55k miles on it. It now has almost 90k miles and the only problem I've had is a coolant leak. It has been a great car for me. Also, I'm getting 25-27 mpg. Just wish it was faster...

    Re: '02 B6 A4 1.8TQ, any weakness that needs repair/replacement?

Thanks everyone for the reassurances, and the gentle replies to a noob. I'm gonna throw in another scenario which complicates matter a bit and replies maynot be gentle anymore, being in a Audi forum. But I'd to as I almost pulled the trigger on this ride after reading all the nice replies........now someone is trying to sell a great priced '04 MkV Gti DSG to me. Arggg....decision decision.

Any comments on the B6 A4 1.8TQM vs MV Gti DSG. It's probably not a fair comparison but hopefully someone had driven both can make a comparison, esp on the drive itself.

    Thanks again
