Talking My little weekend project. WOOT! PICS INSIDE!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Check it out! Took me 2 days to do the whole thing. Hope you like them as much as I do! I also have drilled and slotted rotors on the way that will be put on this week or next weekend.

BTW, the first couple pictures are from my cell phone. Thats why they look like crap. The yellow is much more yellow as you can see in the last few pictures.

    Before Picture:

I can't wait for the rotors to go on. That will just make it that much better looking! Let me know what you think! I decided to go with yellow because very very very few cars that I see have yellow calipers. They are all red and i didn't want to go with the normal. HAHA

What is the black paint you used, I'm looking for a good flat/satin finish to paint my winter wheels.

It's duplicolor high performance wheel finish. It's the satin black.

Where did you get that? Wow. I was thinking of anodizing my stock avus wheel, but if this works I may try this. Is this paint prone to chipping or wear? Link to the paint or shop where I may find it. Such as pep boys, etc.

    That is really nice.

Question: I'm trying to colour my calipers as well. How do you clean all that crap off the caliper prior to painting? What can you use to clean the calipers?

duplicolor caliper cleaner! go figure.... haha,

and of course get a 300 or so grit sandpaper and sand away, then wipe that down with a wet rag, then spray on the caliper cleaner then go for it

Re: My little weekend project. WOOT! PICS INSIDE!

Here is the caliper paint I used:

    http://duplicolor.com/products/caliper.html

It comes with caliper cleaner as well. I used the entire can and also sanded the calipers. For some reason it still didn't want to stick very well on my brakes It took almost an hour or so PER front caliper to make them look good.

As for the black, yes these are my normal wheels. I really like the dark look to them so I will be keeping them this way. I think I might try and get my other set of B7 A4 wheels fixed (one wheel has a nice little crack in it but I have been told I can get it fixed). SO I might do that and possibly paint them for winter... But at the same time maybe not. I won't be driving the S that much in the winter. I have a 90 MK2 Jetta as my daily driver. LOL

    Josh

Oh and it took me about 2 days to do the whole thing start to finish.

only thing i would have done different was make the audi rings on the center caps yellow instead of the rounded cap. other than that it looks good. now get some black accents on the car to finish it up.

next mod should be black/gunmetal side markers and tint

Nice work, everything looks really good except the yellow rings. Thanks for posting this up, I've been thinking about powder coating my Avus wheels black when my R8 reps come in and now I have a very good example of what it will look like!

thats what i was thinking lol, may look like a SD chargers edition s4 lol.

I herd that some Napa stores can use something to give you a spray can of the exact color of your car so i was going to head over there sometime and see if it matches!

PS you could get a foam square brush at hobby lobby and paint the small rings that way. But anyway looks Bad Ass!

Re: My little weekend project. WOOT! PICS INSIDE!

I think it looks great...nice touches.

However I will say that Duplicolor wheel paint, in my experience, seems to almost "pick up" brake dust and not want to let it go when trying to clean the wheels. Trying to scrub it clean either won't remove a lot of the dust/dirt, or the paint's finish starts to come off with it if you get too aggressive.

Perhaps this is because I did not use any clear coat - might want to look into!

Of course...you could always lay down another black coat lol...

    Anyhow, like the look!

The little rings come off very easily. look at the backside and you will see. Then just stick them back in the little holes and put a dab of silicone on the little prongs. They are metal.

looks kinda goofy in my opinion. bright colored calipers don't belong unless it's a bbk, and the center rings look out of place as there's nothing else yellow on the car. Satin or matte wheels with silver or black brakes would be the cleanest in my opinion.

Where did you get your rotors? Im in the market, looking at the Power stop ebay kit. for around $275.

Also thinking about painting my calipers gold (G2 kit off ebay) or white. Didn't want to go red until I get a bbk.

Btw my car is pearl white, so I think the darker gold won't be as flashy and will go nice.

How about these rotors and pads kit I'm looking at?
