    Questions about V1 hardwire

I recently bought an RS4 (previous car was an E46 M3). In my M3, I hardwired the Valentine 1 by tapping into the power feed for the homelink which was located in the map light cluster in the roof. There was also a ground in the same cluster area. With that in mind, I have a couple of questions:

    1. Has anyone hardwired the V1 in an RS4 using wiring and a ground in the map light cluster in the roof? This is my preferred method as it worked flawlessly in my M3 for years and didn't require any "home runs" to the fuse box or tapping into fuses.

    2. As an alternative, I tried hardwiring the V1 using the DIY on this website that uses power from the fuse box and a ground near the fuse box (I think ELEVENS posted it). Unfortunately, the fuse tap that I bought from Radio Shack doesn't stay put. For those of you that used a fuse tap, what kind did you use? For those of you that wrapped a wire around the fuse prong, how exactly did you do this (a pic or description would be great)?

    Thanks.

As far as home runs are concerned, running the wire along the windshield and down the A pillar is exceedingly easy. You just use a credit card to feed it under and you'll have the wire going from the mirror to the fuse box in a minute or two. once inside of the fuse box, ground it on a bolt nearby, and use a blade type fuse tap that looks something like this

I just soldered the wire onto the end of the fuse tap and haven't had a single issue with the whole system. Took me all of 5 minutes to have it all wired, and an additional 5 minutes with zipties to make it all pretty and organized on the inside. While I cant comment on the ease/difficulty of wiring it in the ceiling, running it to the fuse box was simple as hell. hope that helps.

I ran the power to the dome light since its always on until the car is security locked. I used the screw that holds the hold plastic cluster to the roof of the interior for the ground by making a loop after stripping the wire. You have to put the wire over the hole and put up the entire plastic cluster at once to get the screw through the wire loop and the actual screw hole. Make sense?

Here is a DIY for a B6. I'm pretty sure that the B6 and B7 dome lights are the same; at least they look very similar in the pics. I'll hopefully be doing this mod in the next few weeks as well.
