Is it OK to run 225/40R18 winter tires?

I looked up the overall rolling diameter and there's only 1% of difference between 225 and the stock 235/40R18. I guess that wouldn't be an issue, right? My 235/40R18 Blizzak LM-25's are sitting at the winter wear indicators (or 50% tread left), so I'm looking to buy new winter tires. I was wondering if I would benefit from running slightly narrower 225 tires aimed at better traction in snow or the difference would be so subtle that I wouldn't notice it. I'm going to try something different and currently considering Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D and Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3. Any input would be greatly appreciated. TIA

it wont matter at all, there's a ton of people on here that run 225/40/18 tires instead of 235s....i am one of them. do a search, you'll find a solid response.

I run 225 40 18 winter tire. IMO we could'nt really notice the difference witn 235.
I dont know if you have ever drobe in snow with that kind of tire seize, if no, expect to float a bit and no reaching the bottom of the road... It's not the better feeling on 6-7 inches of snow but our heavy quattro car can handle it...

btw.. id stick with the blizzacks... blizzack tires+quattro= tank... seriously.

dunlops are horrible, and michelens arent my fav for anything but sport/summer tires.
