    16x8 wheels

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Was at 034 motorsports this weekend and while talking to them I brought up the problem of finding light weight 16x8 wheels for the A4, They told me that they can have them made but it would have to be a run of 20 wheels.

Would anyone else be interested in some light weight 16x8 wheels?

Can't you guys fit 15" over stock a4 brakes?

I assume this is for a drag/track application...

i think there would be a bigger crowd for 17s or 18s, depending on a price a set of 16s might be nice for track wheels though

    Re: 16x8 wheels

Does that mean 5 people or 20? If it is 5 people, you could post this in the GB section along with the regionals as I am more than sure many would be inclined to that offer for track usage. I know if I had money and tracked my vehicle, I would jump on the deal. Pending the prices were decent.

There are already plenty of light 17's and 18's on the market. I am looking for 16's for racing and the problem is that the few 16's out there are only 7" wide and that is not wide enough for a set of Hoosiers.

Yes 15's will fit over stock brakes, but 16's are needed to fit over A8 rotor's.

Yes they would be for drag/track application, there isn't a big choice on drag tires when it comes to 17's and a much better choice in 16's.

Still need to talk to them about it, they would be in a 5x112 and would be a 16x8 wheel that Rota offers. I could ask if it could be drilled as a multiple lug size.

    Re: 16x8 wheels

You may also be able to get a set of 16x8 wheels undrilled and then have them drilled to 5x112. Or add a second set of lug holes to an off the shelf wheel.

Another option is to look for the URSQ 16x8 forged stock wheels.

    Re: 16x8 wheels

Well if possible I would like to stick with wheels that only have 5 holes drilled since I will putting high loads on the wheel at the hub when launching with Hoosier tires. But they need to be close to 15 lbs to keep the over all weight down under 35 lbs and the tires are 17-18 lbs.

Not all that nice looking thats for sure and I dont think they are going to be under 15 lbs.

I would rather run this set of Rota's.

Who cares what they look like? Which is more important, a photo of the car or a timeslip?

If you can get the Rotas then it sounds like a better option than custom made wheels.

And idk about slipstreams on an Audi. I know this has nothing to do with aesthetics, and your car is extremely geared toward function>form, but something about a Spoon knockoff on an Audi just doesn't sit with me. Same with a Mugen MF knockoff (circuit 8s and 10s). Although I guess Desmond made the regamaster which came from Russia.

Time slip but I am not going to put very ugly wheels on the car seeing that I run in race events where plenty of pics are being taken and posted on plenty of web sites, it woudl be different if I was just some TNT racer but I am not. I just want a cheap light weight wheel that looks half decent.

Even the look of the actual car is going to be changing for the next season of racing.

    Re: 16x8 wheels

yeah. I want a wheel that has less surface area and the stock wheel you posted is just has too much of that. Too much surface area on a small wheel like a 15 or 16 is just makes the wheel even smaller and a set of 26" hoosiers is going to make it even worse.

Here is a picture of a 15" wheel with 26" hoosiers. This is something like the setup I want to do on my car, just a simple look that is light weight. The hoosier tires are around 18 lbs.

    You know im interested.

But price is a factor. What would the price be for 4?

I could get rid of my heavy ass 16x7's and mount my 225/50 Ro1R's on them, A little stretch would give me less side wall flex.

Obviously light as possible would be nice.

Yeah. The Rota Slipstream looks pretty close to that. Nice part that even in 15's they come in 7", 7.5" and 8" wide. They also come in a flat black right from Rota.

No, that is the one that ran in the BOTI I ran in at Sac Raceway. Owners name is Patrick and lives up in Norcal.

    Re: 16x8 wheels

You may also be able to get blanks custom drilled. It depends on the manufacturer but some can and will do it. Some 15 and 16 inch wheels are in the 10-12 pound range. I looked at a set of 15x8 Volks for my Jetta and they were under 9 pounds. They ended up on a mean rabbit vr6 swap.

That is what I am doing thru 034 but they only deal with Rota's. If I wanted to spend a big amount of money on 15-16" wheels I would just buy a set of Weld drag wheels.

Shouldn't be a problem, most 8" wide wheels can be tucked. I also have to make sure that the tires are not going to rub seeing that I am going to run a tire that has a 8" - 8.5" wide tread.

You can get light wheels in a 17" for a reasonable price. The S4 Avant ran 17x8 Kosie T1S(?) that were 15.5 pounds. Roll the lips, mount a set of 255/40-17 gumballs, and hit the autocross scene hard.

No WAY 255's will fit F/R.

I had 235's that would just barely clear on all sides.

I've got 245/40-17 and can go wider. Took photos of the clearance, took careful measurements. Even went so far as to borrow a 275/40-17 for mockup to see how large a tire could fit. The 275 wasn't even close but partially because of the height. I still think a 265/35-18 might fit with relatively minor body mods.

There is less clearance in the rears than in the fronts. This is because the rear lips can't be rolled any flatter and the control arm really limits what you can do on the inside. . You can argue all you want but there are still countless B5 A4 and S4 autocrossers and track junkies running 255/40-17 Toyo RA-1 and other track tires. I ran the RA-1 at 235/40-17 and could have gone an inch wider. Got photos that show it too.

255 is not going to fit inside the wheel well no matter how much you roll it.

Would love a set of Weld Racing wheels but the dont come in a 5x112, which means I would need to have them redrilled and I cant find myself doing that to $400-$500 wheels.

I know this is a necro-bump but any progress made with running the slipstreams on the b5? the closest lug pattern i found was the 5x114.3. They sell them at a jdm parts store here in nyc for 400 bucks at 16x8. the 15 are like 300. I always loved the look but the offset wouldnt work if i had to use adapters. I cant find anywhere local who can redrill.

    Re: 16x8 wheels

I gave up trying to find the right wheels and instead ended up talking to Hoosier which then ended up making me a set of 225/45/17 Drag Radials to fit my 17x8 OZ SL's, they just went into production on that tire this week and same with a 245/45/17.

Not like you care and this is old but I'm just curious how bad gas mileage would be w/ 305's on the highway lol. I know my 235's lost almost 4 mpg. But I also have heavy 18" rims. I am sure I am close to 50lbs w/ tire.

    Re: 16x8 wheels

With the wider tires the alignment (toe) becomes critical to gas mileage. The Corvettes are 400 hp, weigh the same as our A4s, and get over 30 mpg with their fat tires. They are more aerodynamic which really helps but that also shows that cars can get great mileage with a set of fatties up front.
