    buying a 2000 audi s4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I came across a 2000 Audi S4 with 130k. The car is in excellent condition and has had all the maintenance done. The guy wants $8000 for it and my question is if this is worth it and with the miles of this car, is it capable of still being reliable. I've just seen a lot of issues come with this car so please give some input. thanks

    Re: buying a 2000 audi s4

Well what has been done maintenance wise? how long ago? who did it? how many owners? I have seen a few S' go past 200k, but it all depends on how well its been taken care of. I paid 12k for mine with 76k on it

what really matters is if you can handle the financial part if something were to fail in the future.

I've had my 2000 s4 for almost a year now..... I've spent 3-4k in just maintenance and repair costs

    DIY:
7qts of M1 0W-40= 7 dollars and change per qrt.

    Oil filter= 10 dollars.
    Roughly 60+ dollars

In fairness, I do change spark plugs at the same time, and that adds another 15 bucks..

The guy lowered his offer to $7900, I haven't talked to him yet as to the times of the maintenance and what maintenance has been done. He says the turbos are great so lets say the turbos were replaced at 90k, does that sound like a good deal at the moment?

I'm not trying to be harsh but if you can only afford to spend $8000 for a car, this car is not for you. You are taking a gamble and truthfully, we can only guess based on the info that you're giving (which may or may not be accurate). In the end, if you buy it, just make sure you have the time, the money, and the heart to keep the car on the road because no matter how helpful the people on this board are in helping you decide to buy the car, we can't help you pay for the inevitable and very expensive repairs (and parts) associated with maintaining a high mileage B5 S4.

So you've spent over 1/3 of the purchase cost of the car in maintenance in a year...If that doesn't scare the OP off....

nah man no offense taken. I'm just trying to get some input from people who own this car and I understand your point. The one thing though is that I'm moving up a job position where i should make a decent $20-25/hr (at a restaurant). It just seems like a decent deal at least if everything is working as is and I guess I'm comparing this car too much to my audi b5 a4 2.8 which has 130k, and is beaten the shit out of, has never broken, and will never die

Your 2.8 doesn't have turbos........with 130k miles on the car they are a ticking time bomb....

probably the best quote on these cars that I have read, and I apologize to whoever said it because it wasn't me.

you can buy the cars for 10,000 now but they are still 40,000 dollar cars to maintain

That makes alot of sense if you think about it
