    Boost leak tester question

I just built the boost leak tester as described by Martini on a4mods.com. I have a small pancake tank air compressor - the kind usually used for inflating tires and stuff. In Martini's instructions, he talks about charging the system to 10-12 psi. I can't really do that with my tank - it's either on or off. If I couple it onto the tester and then turn it on until it gets to 10-12 psi, then I should be ok, right? Don't professional compressors let you send the air out all at once, whereas mine will be "filling" the engine's vac/boost system as it compresses air?

    Re: Boost leak tester question

My pancake compressor has a gauge on it, I would think most do... If not, buy an external gauge...How do you know how much pressure it's set for?

I would think if you put more than 30 plus PSI then the hoses are not rated for pressure that high and you'll start blowing clamps, hoses, and etc.

It has a gauge - I guess I was just wondering about the unit compressing as the hose was attached to the tester vs. charging the compressor and then blowing the air in in a second step. I got some PM's on it - think I'm all set now. Just waiting for the JB Weld to dry!

    Re: Boost leak tester question

I hooked up an inline valve on the air hose. Worked great.

    Re: Boost leak tester question

i added a second connection (first connection is the air valve to connect the compressor to) on the tester i built (a barbed nipple) that i then connected a foot of boost hose to and a 0/60PSI gauge too, works great because i can see what the system is pressurized at. i'll get a photo later today if i remember to.
