    H&R lowering springs, worth it?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am pretty sure I am in need of some new springs, seeing as every little bump I got over lets out a squeak from my tires. Not wanting to drop ~1500 for a full coilover kit, and seeing as I will need new springs anyways, I might as well get it lowered a bit. I am running stock 18" Avus wheels with stock 235 tires all the way around, am I going to have to change anything to prevent rubbing or will this be fine? Also, what is everyone input into just getting some lowering springs?

Either ...spring&shocks or coilovers... you will regret going with springs alone

tein springs and bilstein struts would be an ideal combo for an s4, providing that you are not going to want to adjust the height.

your springs shouldnt wear out.. You just need new shocks and struts.. My suggestion would be go for H&R and Koni or Bilstien.

I believe Koni is the only company that make shocks for the b6/b7 S4. As far as springs, I think your options are H&R or Vogtlands. That's pretty much it. For more options you have to go with coilovers. That's why everyone who's not running coilovers runs H&R/Koni (like me). The Koni's are adjustable so you can set it to your preference. Lots of threads on here about the H&R/Koni set-up.

ngp carries vogtland springs as well. oh yeah, spend the lil extra and get some nice wheel spacers since you'll be running 18's

Get coilovers, the extra money is worth it in the long run.

I would agree with that...mine does the same. Its not your springs that are making that noise. Regardless, don't just do springs, you will be unhappy. You will make your car ride worse by just doing springs...

I know this is a springs questions, but I put H&R Coilovers in and they have been fantastic! You will not regret spending the money on them. Might as well do it up right.

If it helps, every time a person comes and asks about springs all I hear is "get coilovers instead".

Re: H&R lowering springs, worth it?

I'm sure coilovers are great but I never intend to adjust ride height so I'm happy with my spring/shock set-up.

Springs with stock shocks will work ok for a little while if the stock shocks are fairly new. They aren't made to handle the lowered height so they will probably blow quicker and lead to a harsher and bouncier ride.
