Measure the distance between these two points?

This gap has been bugging me more and more I'm going to be changing my headlights soon and while I'm at it I want to make the proper adjustment to the bumper.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Can someone who has not tampered with their bumper...

Nothing...this is the result of me putting the bumper back on after the CC mod. The two adjusting screws were never adjusted, but from what I hear this is a common problem.

Re: Can someone who has not tampered with their bumper...

Now that I think about it...do you guys think that this is off because of the screws on either side of the bumper that hold the bumper on not being tight enough? (The ones that would be located by the windshield washer tank thing on the left side) My friend was the one who tightened it and I never really asked how tightly he did it.

It looks more like the hood is out of place than the bumper.

It does from that picture but as you can tell from this picture its the bumper. This weekend I'll just take out all of the screws and play around with it, as we have the LPGA coming to my neighborhood and getting out is a bitch

Re: Can someone who has not tampered with their bumper...

I would remove the bottom 4 and loosen the top 3 and try to lift it up while you tighten the top. You could probably sit with your legs under the front end and jack it up with your knees or have someone lift it while you tighten it. The top 3 have an elongated hole that may get it to come up a bit. Then of course put the bottom 4 back in.

I've pulled my front end off and had to wrestle it a bit to get it into position before I tightened it all down.

Do you mean the bottom three flathead screw?
Ill have to try this but are you sure I wouldnt have to remove the screws that are holding the bumper on?

Re: Can someone who has not tampered with their bumper...

Yes, the 3 or 4 quarter turn ones from the bottom. I would try this before pulling the sides, it should only take 5 minutes to find out if this fixes it.

Re: Can someone who has not tampered with their bumper...

ok cool. I could see how this would be the problem as we did those screws last when putting the bumper back on and we just let the bumper sit there instead of pushing it into the proper position.

Re: Can someone who has not tampered with their bumper...

I had the same problem when I took my bumper off to do the CC and Blackout headlights.

I was able to close the gap a little bit by loosening the screws on top of the bumper and pushing the bumper back and tightening again. It didn't fix it completely but it did help. I think I am going to try those three 3/4 turn screws on the bottom of the bumper and see if it helps since that gap bugs the shit out of me as well...

so 1 cm is the gap of a bumper and hood that has not been removed?

Apparantly so and that sounds about right. While dropping my friend off at Subapoo of Livermore I went to Audi of Livermore just to check out the bumper gap and its honestly not much less than mine, but less for sure.

i just did the cc mod on my car 2 days ago and this is the gap i came up with it took me 2 or 3 tries of just adjusting, then sticking the bumper back on without nuts and checking the gap.

is that the best you got after adjusting or did you adjust 2,3 times after you had that gap?

i basicaly put the bumper on loose and put the top 3 screws on the grill on and closed the hood and stood back and looked at it. then popped the hood took the screws off and slid the bumper off and adjusted it. did that 2 times to make myself happy but i could have done a third i guess.

i'm just seeing if i'm being overly picky and trying to convince myself i should just leave it alone until i have to take off the bumper for another reason next time. mine looks about like yours, a tad worse if there's any difference

I think the gap on mine is about the same. I was wondering if it was the way it was supposed to be or if it was sagging after I took it off.

Re: Can someone who has not tampered with their bumper...

you ajust it by loosening the side screws and the take out the top screws and there are two torx 30 atached to plastic levelers that if you have a extension you can turn each one through a hole in the top of the grill when the hood is open. this is what controls the hight of the bumper if the bumper was affixed properly there were two tabs that slid into the levelers which i think are mounted ontop of the crash bar brackets. to change the hight all the other affixing screws need to be loose the quarter turn screws on the bottom dont do anything except hold the belly pan on so no need to mess with them.

It should have a tiny amount of gap, 0.3-0.5cm to allow for the hood to properly depress and latch.

wait so i don't have to remove the whole bumper? what side scresw are you talking about? the nuts behind the side panel or just the four screws up top? any pics of the hole to reach the extension into and is it a flathead?

just tried this today... and all that the torx screw does is loosen the pinch that holds the bumper. i loosened it all the way and it made my bmper looser but not higher in anyway. it looks like to raise it, i have to turn the entire dial, not just the torx screw in the middle. can someone else verify?

clear corner mod. it's when you open up the headlight housing and pop-out the orange/amber lenses on the turn signals.

Re: Can someone who has not tampered with their bumper...

Yes you can adjust it without removing it.
That is how I fixed mine. All you need to do is remove the 10mm bolts on the side and the top torx screws and you can access the bumper adjusters through a hole by where the outer top torx screws would go. Clockwise equals higher, its the opposite of what you think it would be. But dont over do it as the screw can come out.

Re: Can someone who has not tampered with their bumper...

so this worked for you? i tried this but turning it counterclockwise... all it did was loosen the bumper and the torx screw. turning it clockwise like you mention tightenes the screw but doesn't raise or lower the bumper at all.

both b7's i have had were left with huge gaps after I put the bumper back on and no matter how much adjusting and readjusting i did I was never able to get them any closer when it was all said and done...it drives me nuts but I can't seem to be able to find a way to resolve the problem so I gave up :(
