2.8 problem. hesitation & sounds like a muscle car at cold start

car started acting up. drove on the freeway and up shifted. when i press on the gas the car hesitates then tries to keep up after. i know that 1.8ts start to sound like WRX's when the coilpacks are donezo right? but when i
i started it up this morning on a cold start and it sounded like a friggen muscle car. probably coilpack?.

spark plugs are new, gapped and torqued properly.
    spark plug wires are new.

all i could think of left is either the coilpack or MAF because of the hesitation on the road but since it sounded like a muscle car at cold start it should be the coilpack right?

    just wanted some reassurance

i need to fix that crap cause its hard to drive off from first gear now cause the rpm suddenly drop sometimes and then i stall. its sad ....

Yeah its definately the Coil packs. Same thing happened to me 1 month ago. You have to replace all of them and not only the coil where the cylinders are misfiring because it is all one piece. Good luck man

I would check all your electrical connections under the hood. I was having a similar problem after a tune-up, and sprayed some contact cleaner on the connections and plugged them back in, and the problem went away. Mine was only misfiring on cylinder #1. I also played with my MAF sensor plug, and I think that may have helped. If you just did work under the hood, you may have bumped something to cause the problem... I'd check before you shell out the cash.

That is a super suggestion. I wonder how many folks replaced something when all it was is a bad connection to begin with. I applaud this recommendation.

Re: 2.8 problem. hesitation & sounds like a muscle car at cold start

Checked all connections and everythings SOLID. ummm i dont think its the MAF because of the hesitation and wierd idle it has at random times.its never consistant with any of the times i actually pressed down the gas pedal. i remember before i forgot to plug in the MAF sensor (i was trying on those crapper ebay intakes for sound purposes) and i noticed a late reaction to the response buts its not like that now. im leaning more towards to coilpack. so like the picture i put on my previous post.. that IS the coil pack for the 2.8 right? and 1.8t's come with seperate coilpacks for each cylinder right?

Re: 2.8 problem. hesitation & sounds like a muscle car at cold start

ok.... SOOOOO so far. i tested the MAF and the COILPACK. they both turned out good. the two parts i couldnt test were there two end cables of the coilpack. i was trying to follow the cables but it goes under the intake mani so its hard to see where they end up. i ended up finding one (i think) checked that and made sure it was put back in place. then through all that looking for the second connector i was moving stuff around and found that the vacuum line to the fuel regulator slid almost all the off! pushed it back in and used a fitting to hold it place. car feels fine now. i guess i just need new vacuum lines! hah!
