    Re: Winter Steelies

Try craigslist and if you can't find them on there then try any Tire Store. They should have them. I don't think there's much of a markup on steelies so you won't save that much money going from one store to another.

For my previous car (Corrado), I bought some cheap steelies at Steelcase Tire, Woodbine and Steeles area. Around 45 each I recall. I usually talk to Jim.

Steelcase if you're in the area. Wait until a few days before the first forecast for snow, expect a long lineup and the possibility of the good stuff disappearing.

    Re: Winter Steelies

why not look in kiji or craiglist for a used set of audi rims? that way you don't have to drive the winter months with crappy looking steelies. you may be able to find used rims for nearly the same as new steelies.

Haha, I rode 17" celebrations 2 years ago, 18" BBS RX last winter... I'm rocking 15" steels this year. Car looked badass with the 18's, but they got packed with snow so often, I always kept spare change in the car to stop into those car wash booths to spray the snow out -- to stop the car from shaking itself apart!

Haha, remember your spare change for the car wash booth... 18's can be a PITA when they get packed with snow.

They can, but any wheel can get stuck on there. A little anti sieze and you are set.

Watch Craigslist, can pick up some good deals. I got Passat OEM wheels for 100 two years ago.

The nice thing with steelies? You don't care for them and don't really clean them on a regular basis. My OEM rims have a slight yellow colour to it that won't wash off with a pressure washer, haven't scrubbed it down yet.

I just got a set of black 17x8.25 TSW Hockenheims for 140. They could use a coat of paint but that still puts them cheaper than most steelies.

Dude, you have a B5S4, you're not cheap, you just have no money

Slap some winters on those OE 'boat anchors' and watch the classifieds for some decent summers...

steelies are made to not collect ice/snow, thus creating vibration. they do serve a purpose. I do understand the look. And to you ppl that put rims on in the winter. Would you not be risking the finish etc. salt on the roads is pretty bad

I run steelies each winter with new hubcaps every season. Lol.

Dunlop M3 winter tires and some cheap hubcaps look good as new. Plus they're light :)

I dropped the steelies a few seasons ago. Picked up a set of Passat rims for $120, just keep your eye on Craigslist right now and you'll be bound to find something that fits the budget.

ran 19 anthracite CKs through 2 winters...no bends or damage to the finish... you just have to spray them down with a pressure washer more often than not.. but i'd never do it again...

and I don't get the whole collect ice/snow thing..do you guys mean wheelwell or literally inside the wheels? ..cause i never seen it happen on anyone of our cars
    Cheers!

    Re: Winter Steelies

I think steelies look bad ass in the winter, it just screams im ready for snow!!! and the whole shaking thing is brutal and I only ran 17s and it was bad enough, screw 18s that would be brutal if you see any snow at all. and the tires get more expensive the larger the rim, of course if you are just in TO so its no big deal cause you dont see that much of the white stuff.

    Re: Winter Steelies

I can set you up with steelies, but you'll need to run wheel spacers to clear the brakes. not an ideal combo, but it works.

Dude, just buy some tires for your OE wheels and be done

^^^ I'd love to throw them on the stocks, but then next Summer rolls around and I'm looking at $2-3k for a new wheel/tire combo minimum.

There are so many better ways I can spend that.

Is it stupid to keep switching the rubber on my stockies?

No no... you can find nice summer setups for 800-1500. Keep your eyes peeled over the winter, and you WILL find something!

you'll find a set of OEM alloys for $400-500 and you can just fire a set of winters on them.

Steelies, with tax from a retailer, will cost you about $250-300...and your car will look like a real piece of crap for 4 months. What's the point? You can find used A4 17" alloys for almost the same price.

Whoa, I just checked out audiforum.ca for the first time -- because I saw it listed here. The classifieds section is craptastic... seriously, they seem to let eBay sellers post there, and the first several pages of the classifieds ads I skimmed through where 100% from this eBay seller. If I want to browse eBay listings, I'll go to eBay!

go to carpart.com and find wheels that you want and you can buy used wheels from wreckers, they are some $$ but atleast you get OEM quality.. just another possibility.
