Anyway to know why car was buy-back?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am looking into a b7 at the moment from a non-Audi dealership. They told me audi bought back the car from the customer, resold it, and they took it as a trade-in.

Can anyone on here help me find the reason for the buy back with the vin number since this dealership doesnt know? Thank you.

Since you have a vin number maybe you can call Audi and see if they can give you the reason for the buy back. It's worth a shot.

well a buy-back and a lemon are different things. a lemon is when someone purchased the car and had a problem that cont to happen and after the 3rd fix the automaker will buy it back and sell it as a lemon for the stated reason. In Cali you have 30days to get your money back if there is any problem with the car. I have worked at a dealership that sold these buy-backs from cali and some of the reasons they were bought back were a rattle in the glove box. and stupid things like that. Either way I believe it is the LAW to have the reason and they have to show you the reason before they can sell it.

I know that they're different. Notice how I said "lemon". I didn't say anything about buy-backs in general.

Again, if it's a lemon, you don't want it.

Accord to carfax everything is clear, it does show buy-back but gives not reason behind it. So, i will hold off until i contact AoA.

I'm surprised to hear they would resell a lemon.

thank you for that, already did run a carfax and it shows the title as Buyback/Lemon

4 owners and it was bought back twice according to carfax. Called the original dealer, and they said the guy kept bringing it back for "phantom" noises and this is the 3rd Audi he has done it with.

Seems a little too much to deal with for me.

4 owners is crazy. If it was serviced at Audi dealerships you should be able to get all the service records from any Audi dealership or AoA, which would include all work done to the car.

I would pass if I were you. It obviously wasn't up to par for 4 people already. I doubt it will be good enough for a fifth.

Re: Anyway to know why car was buy-back?

some people are just too picky, and whatever problem they had probably didn't warrant a lemon law buyback.

in any case, a lemon isn't always bad, depending on what the issue was. I heard of a car that was sold in an auction as a lemon due to a window regulator going bad, but dealer didn't fix it right all 3 times becasue they didn't want to spend money on a brand new regulator.

But unless you have access to this information, you're probably better off looking at a different vehicle.

Contact AoA to see if they can give you the maintenance records.

Or contact a local Audi dealership and say you are looking at an A4 from a third party and would like any maintenance records they have on it.

Re: Anyway to know why car was buy-back?

Looks like it only had one real owner

owner 1 - person who initially bought the car
owner 2 - dealership that bought back the car
owner 3 - duplicate "owner" reference, states that title was issued to dealer, *probably* the same as owner 2, unless a dealer to dealer transfer was made.
owner 4 - whoever that's currently selling it if it's a private dealer; he probably drove it for 13k miles.

try to see if you can find out what the problem was for.

wow that is a sweet deal. And Audi Dealers will only have maint records on the car if they have seen the car. They don't know what another dealer has done to it! which is too bad but what can you do?

I just walked away from a great deal on an '07 S6 because it was and Audi buy back. The engine was replace by Audi and I could get a 100k warranty. The biggest problems you'll have is when you want to sell the car. I took the car to 2 local Audi dealers. Best trade in value I got was $25k for a car that should bring $45k-50k on trade. Same dealers will give me $17k for an '06 A4.

Re: Anyway to know why car was buy-back?

I'm going with the majority on this one and would say stay away from it...the buyback reason may be nothing, or it may be a lot wrong with the car. If you can work on the car and fix the majority of things yourself, then that is a different story...I would also be concerned about resale value. Unless you would plan on keeping this car until the end of time, you would always get screwed on resale.

A dealer buy back is a serious manufacturer problem. Where Audi buy's the car back and fixes it to re-sell.

I bought a buyback that had the transmission replaced. All under warantee. Have not had any issues with the car. Just make sure you get a letter from Audi stating what was replaced.
