on the way home last night, was having a little fun, let off and got a misfire about the same time. the car seemed to drive ok the rest of the way home, a few blocks, when not under boost. on acceleration, light accel of course, it bogged when the turbo started to spool, and i backed off. got home, was dark and late, but engine sounded normal. i pull codes this morning and get:

    Re: code help needed, please!

Swap the coil pack from cylinder 1 and 2. If the misfire after the swap goes to the cylinder 2 then it is the coilpack.

If the misfire stays in the 1st cylinder, then swap plugs from cylinder 1 and 2. If the misfire is now in cylinder 2 the it is the spark plug.

Replace as necessary. And if it is the spark plug, replace all of them. Ross Tech says that it could be the MAF causing the issue, but it is either a bad ignition coil or spark plug.

As for the other code, it is nothing to worry about. I have that code also for my tt. It is just telling you there is a short in the ground, which there is where you tapped into for the tt. Nothing to worry about.

    Re: code help needed, please!

so i swapped the coilpacks, noticed the engine running a little rough while warming up, then the cel lit up. i pulled the codes and got:

    Address 01 -------------------------------------------------------
    Controller: 4B0 906 018 CH
    Component: 1.8L R4/5VT G 0002
    Coding: 16201
    Shop #: WSC 63351
    2 Faults Found:
    16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
    P0300 - 35-00 - -
    16686 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
    P0302 - 35-00 - -
    Readiness: 0110 1101
    _______________

so it appears i need to replace the coil pack then yes? should i bother taking her out for a drive before replacing that to see if i throw any more codes, or no? i didn't figure i'd take the risk... now to replace the coil pack... is the coil pack going bad what caused the lean condition from the first code set?

You have a bad coil. Replace that ignition coil and call it a day. I have extra L versions if you need it. PM me if interested.

The ignition coils on our cars are known to grant failure. That is why there are revised R versions, which I upgraded mine too. Don't drive your car till you replace that ignition coil. The bad ignition coil caused the lean code.
