    Question 2.7t engine in my B6 A4

I was just wondering if this engine swap is possible. I would plan on spending around $6,000. Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Anything is possible if you throw enough money at it.

For the 2.7t swap I was advised that I would need the ECU, wiring harness, cluster and engine to swap over as nothing is compatible with the B6 stuff.

Sounds like standard fair for an engine swap, only thing needing real customization would probably be the instrument cluster.

    Used 2.7t $2000
    Ecu $300
    Wiring harness $200
    New engine mounts $200
Labor depends on where you go or if you do it yourself $0-2000

For the potential power gains, I think it's worth it. Hell ,if I had the mechnical know how and spare car, I'd go for it.

Been done before so you might want to search to see how much it cost that person or call up DRS which did the work.

I'd plan on spending more than that. I highly doubt the rest of the drivetrain fits.

Besides, why would you put a stock s4 engine in a car? I assume the OP wants more power? That would hardly be a cost effective way. If you wanted more power you are going to want to at least do k04 turbos, which are going to run you another 6k. At that point you should have just done a VR turbo swap.

I say look for a wrecked (rearended) S4 and use the WHOLE car for its parts....you'll be glad you have it, its the little things that cost the most.

this would be pretty sick. Although i think it would have been cool if they made this option available for the a4 instead of the a6. It would have made all you guys complaining about slow cars, not complain haha.

but then you sacrifice the beautiful body of the b6. I know i wouldn't be willing to do that. That's why i don't want a b5. The rear is nice but the nose is rather outdated looking

I personally think the B5 S4 looks so much better than the B6 A4. The B6 A4 Sedan is ugly. I only like the B6 A4 in an Avant. The B5 S4 style is timeless.

Well the numbers say it all.

    North America
    B5 A4 = 6 years
    B6 A4 = 4 years

spoken like a true grandpa haha. No i'm kidding the avant looks sick. But i'd have to disagree on the B5 thing. With a rear lip spoiler the B6 sedan has better lines than stock and that's pretty much all you really need to make it even that much better than the B5. But compare a4 to a4 not S4 to a4!

FYI, the A6 2.7T and harness is a better donor to mate up with the B6 A4. The A6 has quite a few extra things and features of the car which are shared by the B6 and not by the B5

I agree with doug. I had a B5 S4 and sold it for the B6 avant, I would never have sold it for a B6 sedan.

the RS4 widebody B5 model is the absolute best looking audi of all time. It crushes the B6, B7, and B8. It doesnt matter if the widebody is on a sedan or avant, its just plain sexy.

And that is what one of my next projects will be. I plan on it being an Avant too . The B5 with E-Codes and an RS4 front end looks so badass.

So what is your point, B7=3 years and the B8 will probably last 2 years. As car companies progress, they have the means to change designs more often. The B5 is definitely a 90s looking car. The B6 can be made to look just as new or newer than a B7.

are we really arguing opinions of the looks of the B5 and B6?.. in a b6 forum??

who fucking cares. this thread is about a 2.7t swap.

which is not the way to go these days. VR motor will be cheaper, easier to maintain, and easier to attain more power. as well as it has better options for larger displacement.

completely agree . . . found a few passats with 2.7T conversions. there is a really nice what passat avant that has one in it too . . . can't find pictures of that one though. The 2.7T is a great engine for gains, but it is problematic and finicky. A friend who owned a 2000 S4 has said that there always was something that needed fixed. However, if it was for a project car that I wasn't driving everyday I would give this project a green light (notwithstanding a lot money).
