Thank you! My car has the Tiptronic and I hate the lag upon acceleration from a dead stop. It seems worse on hot days. My service advisor tells me this is normal for the Tiptronic. Are any of you experiencing this or is he blowing hot air up my a$$?

i'm assuming you're turbo'd bro, and that's heat soak taking over causing lag.
our turbo'd cars crave cold air.

if your A4 is a FrontTrak sedan, then you've got a CVT trans.
I experienced more lag with CVT, compared to 6 spd tip, when I test drove both.
the sales guy said it's typical with CVT, but I didn't care much since I was going to buy a quattro anyway.

Yes it's a 2.0T - Is there any thing that can be done to reduce this lag?

That's odd. I experienced the total opposite when I had an A4 loaner with quattro/tiptronic. I've never experienced lag with my CVT, but with the loaner the lag was definitely there. I actually didn't know what turbo lag was until I drove the loaner..

You could purchase a front mount intercooler. They help supply colder air to the engine when it's warm out. The factory side mount intercoolers work to a certain point but after some time driving or sitting in traffic they will lose their ability to feed colder air into the engine causing heat soak. Heat soak causes a drop in power across the whole powerband. However, you're always going to have some lag as the car is turbo'd. The lag happens because the turbo relies on exhaust gases to spool it up. Obviously as you accellerate and gain RPM's, more air will start flowing through your exhaust and into your turbo to spool it up and create power. That's why if you give the car gas in low RPM's it feels like it gets a kick in it's pants around 2.5k and 3.5k RPM's.

The GSG intake would pair with that also.

    Re: Differences Between Audi Transmissions

Any idea on how much a GSG Intake or front mount intercooler would run you installed? The lag is very annoying and kinda embarassing if it happens when some is in your car. Almost feels like your transmission is getting ready to go out.

There is no such thing as Tiptronic FWD. All FWD are CVT.

    Re: Differences Between Audi Transmissions

So I just checked the window sticker that came with the car (you know the one that lists all the standard features and options). I guess I have the Multitronic CVT (that's what the sticker said). I don't know where I got tiptronic from.

In any case, thanks to all of you who responded I really appreciate your input.
