LaBree HFC+ 034 HF Mani Questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello all, I have a 1998.5 A4 1.8TQM all it really has done to it is a TIP and a chip...

well, I have decided to go K04 (non-PC16)....for most everyone on here I know it sounds pretty lame...but I am excited

so, I have wound up with 2 things that I am iffy about for such a small turbo....

    first....

(from cat-back I will be running 2.5" into a resonator and then to a 1400 series magnaflow muffler)
the LaBree HFC....I know quite a few of you run them, but has anyone showed a reasonable difference on a Dyno?...and what are the chances of ending up with a CEL?...do any of you run the non-foulers with this HFC?...I know it's only $250, but I dont want to spend $ if it wont make a reasonable improvement.... I would also like to know how the fitment is....I am hoping that it is an identical match to my stock cat...

    second...

034 has a high flow exhaust mani....I don't think I have heard of too many Ko4 guys running it...their site obviously says it has a higher flow capacity, but will it make a difference on a non PC-16 ko4?...how is the fitment? has anyone heard of one failing?...has anyone dynoes with this mani?...do you think I will get $300 out of it?....

and the other question....I am thinking right now I am just going to pick up a G-Pop Shop KKK K03/04 Turbo for $750 (+$32 for the gasket kit)....I was just wondering if you guys know of anywhere that has a regular ko4-15 for less $?

and as far as the tune goes i think my only option is GIAC...the question i have about the tune is....their MSRP on the website went down to $300...will any giac dealer honor this $, or will i have to send it deirectly to them to get dealer price?....

any other tips or insights on Ko4 experiences/knowledge are appreciated!

the reason I am not going any bigger/not even going pc16 is because I need a reliable DD and I am on a brand new stock clutch and I am still on stock 130k internals....in a few years I will go bigger, but for the time being a K04 Should suffice *fingers crossed*

thanks for everyone who took the time to read through all of that...

I will keep everyone updated on my mini build...lol....after I get all the parts it should take about a day....lol...at least it's not like some of your 6 month builds...lol...

Re: LaBree HFC+ 034 HF Mani Questions

i have both a hfc (tantrumwrks) and 034 mani. They both worked great, however, getting the 034 mani on is not fun. What your going to have to do is get a crows foot ( wrench end with socket adapter) and grind it down a bit. Since the runners on the 034 mani are so much bigger you can barely fit a open ended wrench on it. I bent a wrench 90 degrees and i still needed to grind down the end to get good fitment. But all in all its worth it. You should go pc16 if you think your going to be happy with a standard k04 setup. I went pc16 now im craving more. It is also my daily driver, stock clutch (for now) and 100k on the clock. Runs great, just dynod 175whp,222wtq with stock manifold on a lean pull on a dynomite dyno

Go pc-16 or j31 with supporting mods. Otherwise you mite as well just get a chip and save a crap load of money.

Re: LaBree HFC+ 034 HF Mani Questions

    thanks for the advice....

fikes...I am already running a chipped ko3...I just want a bit more power

I am on a brand new stock clutch and 130k stock internals....what i am worried about is the excess TQ from the PC-16 may throw a rod or dicintegrate my clutch...lol

20vpower....175whp is only like 213chp...I thought it would be pushing more (i guess the AWE #'s are off...their site said 247chp for pc-16).....whats up with tantrumwerks?...I just looked at their site....I had never heard of them before....they are $75 more than LaBree....any reason why you went with them over any other hfc?....so you nevcer dynoed after the 034 mani?....i really want to see some dyno results for it on a k04.....

I guess I will go pc-16, the $ isn't the problem....it's more of a peace of mind thing for me...

alright....so, I guess I am going pc-16....and I am going to go for a hfc(don't know which one)....the real question is....is the 034 mani really going to make a difference on such a small turbo?....will it pay for itself?....

Re: LaBree HFC+ 034 HF Mani Questions

i just got the tantrumwerks because i bought it used for a decent price. supposibly dynomite dynos read 8-10% lower than dynojet dynos, which puts me at ~189whp which with 22% loss is 230crank.

If you have a giac chip already you can just upgrade to pc16 for 200
Remember you will need 310cc inj, fmic to keep iat's down, exhaust, and preferably an afpr or if money is tight you can get a 3bar (which is what the tune calls for)

Re: LaBree HFC+ 034 HF Mani Questions

yeah, I figured that the dyno prolly had something to do with it...

Yeah, in the next month or so im guna install my fmic and some 2.5" cat-back exhaust...

I think you are actually supposed to run a 5bar fpr...i like the idea of a set fpr, no room for me to mess anything up...lol

who makes a good set of 310cc injectors(for a decent $)? do I need an adapter for them or do they pop in like stock?

you said that the 034 mani is worth it, after the install could you feel a notable difference?

no pc16 is 3 bar, and adjustable is nice to be able to tweak your afr
bosch makes 310 (red tops) they pop right in. Actually i think a guy locally is selling 034 30lb injectors which is basically 310s

Re: LaBree HFC+ 034 HF Mani Questions

huh....so, how much twaking have you had to do with your afpr?...I would prolly just set it at 3bar and never touch it....i dont want to have to do the vag-com log deal....I am kinda lookin for some simple bolt on plug and play power....I really dont want to have to stress about my afr....have you had any air fuel problems?...do you have an A/F guage?...would that be something I need?

aren't bosch 310's what the TT runs stock?....you know of a place where I can pick up a set for cheap?

whats up with the 034 30lb? have you heard of anybody running them w/pc-16? they are inexpensive enough to just buy them new directly from 034....

I want to pick up new products for peace of mind...

I think the bosch red tops are actually 315cc...and they are a bit more expensive than the 034 injectors from what i can find....

http://www.usrallyteam.com/index.php...ex&cPath=10_44 Thats where I got my red top Bosch's for my K04. As for the manifold, the stock one flows very good, I dont see any reason to spend more on the 034 for your set-up.

Wasn't intended to be a shot at you by any means. For a K04 I think the stock one would be good enough. Theres no doubt that yours is better. In fact, im pretty impressed by those numbers, I didn't really have much prior knowledge to your manifold other than what other members have said and who knows what they think they know. Thanks for the lesson though
