plasti dip? / maybe an rs4 grille fitting non-sline without cutting

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
im getting ready to buy an s4 grille to cut it down to fit my non sline.. and i want to paint it all black

    1) does plasti dip come out matte black? or gloss?? if its matte would you just recommend putting some clear coat over it to give it some shine??

    2) can i plasti dip the chrome? will it peel after being in the weather and stuff?

    3) i think i heard that some plasti dipped their chrome trim, and said that it stays on fine, and later on if you want you can easily peel it off and go back to the chrome... anyone know if this is true?

thanks.. this should be an interesting project.. not only am i trying to cut the s4 grille down to fit, but i have never taken my bumper off before so im sure this will all take me forever

    Re: plasti dip?

Plasti Dip comes in both Flat and gloss. I have a similiar project coming up just waiting for fog light bulbs to come in. That way I can do it all at once. I will post pics.

You can PlastiDip the chrome without sanding. To remove it later, simply cut a small piece into the PlastiDip and peel it all off.

damn plasti dip is sounding like am amazing product... i really love the fact that i can peel it off later... and the fact that it comes in matte and gloss AND that you dont need to sand anything

    Re: plasti dip?

i sprayed my entire filler with plasti dip. spraying makes a textured matte surface. there's no sense in spraying clearcoat over it and probably will not stick anyways.

    Re: plasti dip?

my can doesn't say anything about being glossy or matte, so i'm assuming it's just matte. came out damn good though, i really love the look. it's held up well for the past month or so, even on the highway i haven't seen any sign of chipping.

    Re: plasti dip?

    Re: plasti dip?

if you're referring to what this guy did: Clicky Click then it just might work. if you don't plan on ever having it not painted again just go ahead and do a bit of sanding before you spray. the plastidip should stick to the valence considering it stays on a lightly sanded chrome surface. i think the painted lower valence will look sick, but if for some reason plastidip doesn't work out and you've already sanded you're going to have to paint it again with something else. can't hurt to try though!

    Re: plasti dip?

I live in Canada and I went to Home Depot which is where I was told they have Plasti dip. They only stuff they have there is in a tub and NOT a spray. Is this stuff available in both?

Where else can you buy this stuff from?

    TIA

yea thats basically what im looking to do... i mean everyone says that i can paint my grille and chrome trim with plasti dip with no problems.. and they also say it can be done with zero sanding at all

so the rear valence seems to be made of the same material that the grille is made of so im thinking it will work out.. i just figured since my grille is going to be black, that the valence would look better black than it would that matte greyish color

More info on how you did this please......

I'm contemplating buying the RS4 grille, bringing it my body shop and telling them to 'make it happen'. I love that mesh.

hardware stores, automotive stores, etc. maybe even walmart might have it.

the tub is for dipping things. for example: you can dip the handles of your metal pliers to make them more comfortable in your hand, and get better grip.
