anyone know WTF this part is? pics inside

I was at a buddies shop, finishing up my remote start/turbo timer/alarm install and this piece was on the ground when we were all done, Obviously I was in the trunk by the vacuum module and under the steering wheel, and under the back seat... I have NO idea where it came from, almost looks like part of some clamp or something...

Next to a AA battery for scale reference - it's made of ABS

on the middle pic where the holes are there is lettering (upside down in that pic) that says

    " >ABS< AUN 8D5 827 347"
"L1" is between the two holes
and the rings are just above the "347" in the first line of text.

Looks like a piece that would snap over the ends of the power seat rails.

where did you find that, any chance it showed you an exploded view of where the hell it went?... bumper?

it's definitely not dirty enough to be an OUTSIDE bumper part...

some part to the tailgate (trunk)

i did some searching on the part number.. found a german page..

    http://board.gulli.com/thread/905886...e-8d5-827-347/

and one of the post translates to this

i dont know what that one word is cause it wont translate.. but check that area.

According to ETKA are the Anschlafpuffer for the tailgate.

    An means "on"
    puffer means "bumper"
    schlaf means "out of"

    Outside bumper for the tailgate?

I found one of those when I took my spare out and have no idea wtf it is. I called a friend who is a tech and sent him some pics on my cell phone and he didn't have any idea.

It's part of the plastic trunk liner.

In the picture above, the trim piece I'm referring has the date stamp on it. It's the plastic piece that is right there in front of you when you open the trunk. It has about 6-8 screws holding it in. If you take that trim piece off and flip it over, you'll see the the piece you found or a spot where it should go.

Trans4M: What is that box you have, looks to be a perfect fit, or is it custom? I dig the hell out of that.

It's a discontinued JL stealthbox made for the B5 A4. Need to a little bit of trimming to make it fit, but I like how it turned out.

I think there's one in the classifieds.
