Just looking to lower the car a little... need something cheapish, I have NO desire to race or track this car, I am only dropping for cosmetics... any direction would be useful.

I went with H&R/Bilstein, plus ECS coilover sleeves. All that for a little over a grand. A few hundred cheaper than full coilovers. Not really "cheapish"...but.. Check out ECS' site.

Might as well go with the vogtland GT's from startup at that point. Full coilovers, with the proper springrates.

Don't cheap out on suspension. Even though you're just going for cosmetics, you're going to kill your ride quality. It will be fine and you'll be happy for a while, but eventually you're going to want something better. Which will just end up costing you more money in the long run. So go with something right off the bat, that you'll be happy with.

I should say I already had the Bilsteins, otherwise I probably would have gone that route.

For a quick cosmetic drop I picked up used springs for less than $200. Check the classifieds maybe?

alright, even *I* know that cutting springs is not the RIGHT way, lol... I'm not on a budget but have no need for a full coilover set - I'd like to keep stock ride quality, and have no desire to firm it up or improve handling or anything other than lower the car a bit...

    Re: cheap and easy drop?

Stick with stock then. If you just do springs, the ride quality will be worse because all springs increase spring rate and your dampers wont be able able to handle the increased springrate. Not to mention you'll blow your stock dampers rather quickly since they are operating below their designed range. So you'll need to do springs AND dampers. Basic bilstien and koni shocks are ok... but again you're going to further decrease ride quality. It will be stiffer and it will pogo. Not to mention H&R springs and Bilstien shocks sits the car pretty low (around 25" - 25 1/4" inches). Konis will make it sit even lower. And unless you go with adjustable collars from ECS you wont be able to adjust the ride height.

Trust me, you want to go with a suspension that is 1) designed to work with the car and 2) a complete coilover setup so the springs and dampers work together.

I've had MTM springs / Bilstien shocks, H&R springs / bilstien shocks, Stasis motorsports (koni based - so similar to track sports) and now the Ohlin stasis motorsports. Despite having 700/800 spring rates on the ohlins, the ride quality is 100% better than even the spring/shock combo (which is something like 425f / 375r with the H&R's). Having a properly designed suspension is key.

    Re: cheap and easy drop?

decent coilovers can be had for 1K

used even cheaper but stay away from anything revalved like shine, or H&R shocks.

    Re: cheap and easy drop?

just a question to OP.. why wouldn't you want to kill two birds with one stone and get a full coilover set so you can handle and look good? it makes no sense to me why you would'nt want to do something that would be better for your car and better for handling, AND better looking?

I run intrax. The drop looks really good. There is a guy selling a brand new set for 150 on vortex. I am changing them out to full coil overs. I like a track friendly suspension.
