Audi S3 boxes clever with new S tronic transmission option
    October 1, 2008 - Audi AG, Ingolstadt

    • Audi S3 boxes clever with new S tronic transmission option
    • Acclaimed double-clutch transmission's rapid fire changes perfectly complement fast-paced 265PS sports hatch
    • 265PS @ 6,000rpm, 350Nm from 2,500 – 5,000rpm, 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds (three-door), top speed limited to 155mph, combined mpg 33.2, CO2 198g/km
    • Audi magnetic ride adaptive damping available at extra cost
    • New faster-reacting quattro four-wheel-drive system

The Audi S3 is now not only available with five doors, but also with seven speeds courtesy of the much lauded S tronic twin-clutch transmission, which not only quickens shifts compared with the continuing manual version, but also slows down fuel consumption. Available to order in Europe from October 1st, the super slick transmission makes this the first ever 'two pedal' S3.

Equipped with S tronic, the three-door S3 can touch 62mph from rest in 5.5 seconds, 0.2 seconds quicker than the manual version with which it shares its governed top speed of 155mph. Equally impressively, S tronic actually boosts the S3's combined fuel economy figure from 33.2mpg to 34mpg – a feat which the majority of conventional torque converter automatic transmissions couldn't match. As a result, CO2 output in the S3 S tronic falls from 198g/km to 193g/km. More

After essentially seeing my car above with an S3 badge on the front, the new head lights and an extra dsg gear, I started to think about why there is no S3 here in the states. Since we have the 3.2 V6 with 250hp, I think I can see why Audi NA decided not to offer the S3. But after a quick check of the Audi UK site, I found that they do not offer the 3.2 V6 in the UK! With no 3.2, it makes perfect sense to offer the S3. IMO the only reason people were buying the 3.2 was for the quattro. However with the 2.0T w/quattro, are people still gonna buy the 3.2? We should start a petition to Audi NA to get them to drop the 3.2 in favor of the S3 like the UK has done.

Am I to take it that the S3 in Europe is a 2.0T.

I have the 3.2, and I DID buy it just for the Quattro.

Lemmeknow....(plus, I think I caught that the S3 has 7 gears with the DSG...wowzers! Mine has 6...but I luv that DSG!!)

A lot of people buy A3 3.2s for quattro and to have the 'top of the line' A3. A lot of people also think 3.2 > 2.0T, because they want the bigger engine, don't want a turbo, and definitely wouldn't chip said turbo.

I agree the US only needs the A3 2.0T quattro and the S3.
