touch up paint difference?

1. Is there any difference between buying the touch up paint from the dealership vs. one of those online site?

2. Which kind are best for touching up rock chips? Pen, bottle w/ brush?

I need to do that before the clear bra installation.

i just bought touch up spray and a clearcoat from www.automotivetouchup.com , they use the colorcode from our cars and the match is perfect.

I am by no means a paint expert and haven't even fully detailed a car before. However, through my reading and research what seems to be the 'professional' consensus is that using a very very fine tip paint brush and dabbing small amounts of paint on at a time seems to be the best way to fill in rock chips. I caution you take my advice with a grain of salt as I have not done this before.

Depending on the quotes I get from places to fix the chips/pitting on my hood I might go this route and attempt to fix it myself.

I bought one of the touch up pens from the dealership. I think it was only $15 for the color matched stick and the clear coat stick. I bought it to fix three little gouges in my bumper that were there from the previous owner. I was told that the pens work well for the bumpers that are plastic but do not work as well on metal parts like the hood. So far, the touch up on my bumper is holding up well. You can still see the gouges a little, but they aren't the dark plastic color, they are color matched very well. I tried to drip excess paint into the gouges to fill it a little but it was hard with the pen and I ended up making it run. Luckily I was able to clean it off. I would definitely recommend the pens for fixing your bumper but I have yet to try it on any metal parts.

I ended up ordering a 1/2 oz base code (the paint), primer and clear code from www.automotivetouchup.com. It came out to be about $30 shipped.

If anybody is interested I'll keep you posted on how they turn out.

I would like to see a picture of said pen. How big is the tip? I have a small rock chip on my roof, so i ordered touchup paint from the dealer for $7. I haven't picked it up yet so I dont know if its a pen or what. My body shop told me to use a pin or needle to fill in the chip, then compound it 'til its smooth.
