When driving the car between 40-60 mph and between 1800-2300 rpms, you start to feel a slight vibration. Also it only happens when stepping on the gas. It feels like it is comming from the back but now i really dont know. It happened for about a week and I brought it to the dealership and they have no idea. (standard) If anyone has any ideas that could help that would be great. It is going back in a few days to get the axle changed because someone the car passed AUDI CERTIFICATION with a torn boot!...

humm.. if you find out what the problem is let me know. i have the same problem but i've learned that raising the music helps forget about it.

I've been to many independent audi specialists in the los angeles basin and a couple stealerships, but they all say they don't know what the problem is. some dont even notice it during test drives.

Could be. Thats the most common reason, but do you have aftermarket wheels or stockers?

    Re: Shaking!

I have the stock rims, but they have new tires and "were" balanced. I'm going to bring them in to get rebalanced. It was driving perfect then on the last 20 miles of a 200 mile road trip it started making that sound, but only when I hit the gas so I thought it was the injectors or spark. But I will give the wheel balance a shot after the axle gets changed on Monday...Would the wheels always shake/vibrate if they werent balanced or would they shake/vibrate only when accelerating?

What about an unbalanced driveline, bad snub mount, bad motor mounts, bad steering components? These could all cause vibrations.

    Re: Shaking!

make sure you get a good wheel balance..that matters alot..and it could also be a slightly bent axle..

x2, not all wheel balancers are created equal. Like most things, the machine depends on the proper maintenance also make sure that the wheels were balanced dynamically.

Another thing, hitting a pothole, curbing your rims, etc. can all affect the balance of your wheels. Even getting a tire repaired and the tech not mounting it at the same exact position can throw the balance off.

Most places should offer you a free check and even if they charge it would/should not be over $20 for all four.

    Re: Shaking!

i had similar symptoms with a blown front cv joint. I was convinced it was the rear axle until we put it up on a lift to check it out.
